Hi all,

I've look around the forum for answers to this one, but came up short. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have a 1991 W126 300 SEL, and have a line on a set of rims that I am interested in.

The current owner states the following about the rims:

- from a 1992 SL 600 AMG
- Bolt patern is 5X112
- chome
- 17 inch
- tires are 215/45/17
- ET is unknown or undisclosed at this time

Quick questions:

- Anyone know the ET of these Rims that came off of these 1992 SL's?
- Would I need spacers to get them to fit properly on my w126?
- New bolts and lugs required?

Any pics would be great, going to look at them this weekend.

Many thanks for the help.

Rim Fitment

This question pops up all the time; I just asked the same thing regarding my 91 560SEl, which is the same chassis and has the same firment issues as yours.
"Most Likely" the wheels have a much bigger offset than the stock 15 " on your vehicle, stock is I think an ET11. The 16" SL wheels have an offset of ET34 and require spacers: one post said that the wheels rubbed the interior rear wheelwell on his W126 and I think the fronts will rub the tie rods ( not 100% on this ). I would plan on them not bolting up and plan on buying some good spacers and longer bolts ( I think most owners here like the H&R DR & DRA units ). Maybe someone has tried this combo and can advise as to what size spacer will work. :confused:I am going to mount an old tire ( 225-65-16 )on my 16" SL rims and see what rubs;this should give me an idea of spacer needed .

Hi all,

OK I have had a look at the rims. They need some work, but here are a few things I noticed and was wondering if anyone had any info. Let me know if I need to post this in the 600SL section.

1) The rims were certainly AMG - but after extensive examination - I never fount the offset numbers / ET which I found strange. I asm pretty sure however they will need spacers to fit my 126,

2) I did find "Made in Japan" on them.

3) They were a 2 piece Monoblock style with 60 or 70 rivets all around. Get this, the rivets were not white chrome like the rest of the rim, they were brass in color!:p

Has anyone ever seen these or know why they would be manufactured in Japan? Am I looking at a set of knock offs?

Many thanks,

Robert

If they are stock Mercedes wheels for the SL, the 17' version was 17.x8.25 ET34
They will most likely fit on the front, but may rub slightly on the inside when the wheels are turned to full lock. Will need a 20MM spacer for the rear, if you want to run a spacer up front, you have to go with a 20MM as well. The 10-15MM spacers will not fit over the hubs on our 126Ch. cars. With this set up, you would have a perfect offset 14MM. Expect to pay about $100.00 for the H&R DR system + the longer bolts, and about $150.00 for the DRA system. ( per axle )

Hi again -

Ok I have looked around the web to find a picture of the rims I looked at today and the closest I can find is the attached.

The only difference between the rims in the picture and the ones I saw today is that the ones today are 100% chorme faced (mirror), with a burnished lip. In addition, the ones today had the brass rivets, the ones in the pix do not.

Anyone have any G2 / info on these?

Many thanks,

Robert

Yes knockoffs, be careful.

420SELTOM,

Thanks very much for the heads up. What was it about my description that made the fact that they were knock offs a dead give away? Was it the "made in Japan", the brass rivets, no ET stamp, combo of all or something else?

Many thanks for the education on this,

Robert

You want to look for wheels with 11-15 offset, which most experts recommend.
Cheers

Those are the same wheels I have. But those are most certainly knockoffs. They are impersonating OZ Racing 3 piece wheels and were most certainly NOT 'Made in Japan'. And the hardware should be stainless or chromed, not brass. And they are bolts with nuts on the back, again, not rivets.

When a wheel is advertised as an AMG and then labeled as "Made in Japan" then that should raise some red flags. No AMG wheel were made in Japan FWIW.

Very close! More rivets all around, and the AMG is in black. Pretty close though.
