hi all ..... great site i have 2002 ml270cdi, please help

2 months ago had major problem with intermittent starting.Diagnostics AT LOCAL MB garage said it was my immobilizer and transponder unit. i replaced this and the problem still present . They then changed fuel seals and line . PROBLEM still present . Then oddly when it did start it would not accelerate properly almost as if in limp mode?. they then said no 4 injector had to be replaced and IT WORKED started everytime since then for 2 months .

However, now at times it will not accelerate properly and in neutral wont rev above 3000rpm . At other times it will be absolutely fine , and hit top speeds no problem.
Ii have already paid out 650 pounds and am afraid to go back to M.B .

Do these symptoms ring a bell with anyone please?

many thanks Tony.:surrender::surrender::surrender:

Same car+year as me. Seems like your wagon is going into limp mode, which could be due to one of any number of sensors/devices which have failed. You need to get the codes read, it will store any that are intermittant faults. I had this happen once on mine, and it was the transmission controller that had an error (something about low voltage), and so then must have told the engine controller to go limp. I ddin't get a CEL up on the dash or anything, but it was obvious something was up due to the lack of power.

A good check is next time it does it, stop and switch off the car, then immediatley start and drive again, this will show up any intermittant fault if it works fine once restarted. Mine worked fine after a reboot.

When in limp mode the turbo control is disabled, so you don't get much boost and hence not much acceleration, and there is a 3000rpm limit imposed on top of this. So this fits with your description. NOTE that in neutral there is always a lower rev limit to protect the engine, I'm not sure what that limit is though, I should try it one day.

how much did your ml cost? how many sensor does my car have?
Mine is in Australia, so prices don't compare well here with the UK. Your car has hundreds of sensors.

It could be your turbo actuator is on its way out, there is an easy test for this, the EGR valve and turbo valve use the exact same vaccum transducer, so you can swap them over and see if it fixes it without spending any money at all (you don't need EGR).

As muc as I hate to do it, you should really have a look at a UK forum, there is far more CDI experience on them, for example there is a recent thread on this exact issue and exact car (it's not you is it?)...

Power loss

I have a e270 cdi 54 reg and every know and then my car won't rev above 2500 rpm or let me manually change gears except 1-3-d the person I got it from reckons its a safe mode as I may have over reved engine or too fast lol I know think after 5 times and not going fast it maybe be trying to get answers. No faults show and the drive mode stays the same but I get overtaken by cyclists when it does it. Any help much appreciated

The person you got it from is talking BS as to the reasons for your limp mode, you can't over-rev an auto!, and anyway, the CDI engines management systems wont allow an over-rev..........You need to have the codes read but it sounds to me like its possibly the 'maf' thats causing intermittent limp, a new maf is only about ÂŁ60 from MB and usually needs replacing sooner or later, after that I would be looking at the transmission that's causing limp mode and a common cause is a faulty conductor plate, this plate contains the speed sensors which are the usual culprits.........The conductor plate is located inside the gearbox and can be replaced with the box in situ. Another cause could be a leaking pilot bush, this is the large electric plug on the side of the 'box and when leaking it allows atf fluid from the 'box to 'track' inside its wiring loom and enter the transmission ecu (located inside the cabin) causing a few electrical gremlins. .
There are many other reasons for limp mode and I have mentioned the 2 most common that I have experienced.

my E class used to go into limp mode and my specialist told me to give the car agood blast on the motorway this cleans the exhaust out and im glad to say it worked, never done it since. also got a 2001 ml 2.7 that wont pull when driven hard, had car on star and no faults are shown, specialist recons its an air problem around the intercooler releasing pressure or sucking in cant remember wich. Are these codes pointing towards early signs of EARLY "BLACK DEATH" for my 2002 ML 270???

It still changes gears but only revs to 3000RPM and has a messy top Injector..??

I've been reading some posts indicating a Mass Flow or BLACK DEATH as seen and described on youtube, seems like a relatively easy fix.

Any Idea's?
