I'm considering putting in a Powerchip mod for my 300SL. I was wondering if any of you guys have used them and if you think they are worth the money?

Is the torque and HP noticable and do they inprove fuel economy. They sent me this pdf file and it seems reasonable so if I did it, I would go for the Gold98 chip.

Thanks
Andrew

Sorry to inform you, Andrew, but the 107 does not have a "chip"... No computer, no chip. It is one of the best features of the venerable 107. Now. if you step over to the 129, that's another story altogether...

I just navigated to powerchips' site... In australia there were some MB 3.0 engines listed for the 1987 model year, contrast to USA, where there were NO MB's listed at all. I did not see the SL listed.

Perhaps I am mistaken in my original statement to you, Andrew... Let me say to my knowledge, which would not fill a thimble, there is no chip. If I am mistaken, I apologize, and like my crow fried like KFC chicken...

You are of course talking about the 87, 300SL. It would come as a real shock to the ECU in my D-jet equipped 75, 280SL. Out of curiosity, why is the posting date shown as April 13th when it is the 11th?

You are correct Ears,

After I posted the question I called the company in Melbourne and they informed me they can only modify the 24v 300E I6 not my old 12v.
Oh well!

Looks like I will follow the good lady wifes suggestion and spend the cash on a trip across Bass Strait on the ferry and a BnB tour of Tasmania.

Cheers
Andrew

I should have clarified my post, I was referring to the type of chip you can unplug and replace, similar to more modern Electronically managed engine control systems (OBDII and newer). As you pointed out, and others via PM, anything electronic can certainly be re-engineered or "Fiddled" with to a customizable end result. Strife2's FGS is a perfect example...

Thnaks for pointing out the error in my "blanket" statement. Andrew is Hip...

Melbourne Australia is +10hrs GMT, Its Wednesday 12th 11:19am here. I don't know why it posts the 13th. I have checked my preferences and everything is ok at this end.

This would ultimately be the most wise decision, regardless of whether or not you could've gotten a Powerchip upgrade.

Keep paying attention to your wife! [:D]
