Trunk (boot) opens and shuts fine from remote or from door, but will not latch beyond the first click. Must firmly press down on trunk to latch completely. I don't really want to adjust the striker yet until I know if there is something else I should look for.

This is a new to me body style since my last was a W140. I've been reading as much as I can to familiarize myself with all the workings etc and much much more to go!

Try resetting the soft-close system.

Look in the rear passenger floor, just behind the left passenger's heels, and find the floor light. Pop the entire light out - one of the many fuse blocks is behind the light (along with relays and other devices).

Look on the inner end and find the yellow 20-Amp fuse. Pull it out for thirty seconds, then reinsert it. Reinstall the light.

If the trunk soft-close starts working and continues working, you are good to go.

If the trunk soft-close works, but poorly or slowly, you may have problems with the pneumatic system - leaks, broken parts, etc. If so, it will probably quit working after a few times. The computer monitors operation, and will disable the actuator if there are leaks or problems.

sounds like a trunk pneumatic lock. if the system sees a leak it will shut off that branch for closing assist. if you reset the system....lock the trunk manually with the trunk open.....listen closely ....you may hear the trunk lock pneumatic leaking. if you do it needs a new trunk lock

Hello, everyone!

Because here is topic about trunk I have two questions or request for help:
1. So I think I have a leak from my trunk the soft-close pneumatic system because it doesn't soft-close anymore and from trunk door can be heard air leaking. What is proper trunk cover and pneumatic system removal manual? Also is this problem connected to trunk door latch which closes as soon as I open my trunk and I need to press open again so latch opens again and I can close my trunk?
2. My fuel gauge is not working properly - if I pour full fuel tank, my fuel gauge shows only 3/4 full and get to 0 already after around 120 km. So how is proper manual to get to fuel tank from trunk and how do I get off cover in trunk?

Don't want to break anything so want to prepare and get as much information as I can for proper Mercedes-Benz maintance work because my lovely car deserves it as well as this kind of works in my opnion are "do by yourself".

I have 2005 w220 s350.

Welcome to the Forum, thank you for completing your profile (y) (y) (y)

If you look in the Stickies at the top of the Forum Page you will find our Encyclopaedia, plus search Trunk Latch and you will find much info ;)

To do most work on these Cars you really should buy an SDS system, it is worth it's weight in gold, and will save you thousands over your period of ownership. It is not just a "Code Reader", it is way more and is the only machine that will carry out "Version Codings" and other essential tasks to repair your Car successfully ;)

HTH :)

@RichyRich5 , I would strongly suggest not only STAR Diagnostic System, as Dave has done. I would also recommend you get access to what's called a "smoke tester". There's a US-based company called "Autoline" that makes and sells them for US $75, so I'm hoping there's a similar vendor in Latvija. Such a smoke tester will help you track down air leaks in your PSE system, which can certainly cause what you're seeing. The little air tanks in the actuator mechanisms--trunk and door locks--are known to eventually start cracking.

You want to track down this problem as soon as you can, because an air leak--which I suspect here--will cause your PSE pump's electric motor to burn out. PSE pumps are about US $650, even after the discount. The normal price at the dealer is US $900. Ouch! So, definitely track this problem down as soon as you can.

Thanks @Dave2302 ! Sounds like good investment in SDS, but probably in future for now.
@cowboyt Thanks for response and full "SDS system" name explaining. Will be easier to look for it and also will try to find company who offers possible air leak check for PSE system - won't be easy to find - small market here.
And by the way - yes, my rear left door also not working, need to press door lock by myself (pushing it in) because door is not closing by button on key (when press close) or from salon button - all other three doors locks. So it could be all connected with PSE system air leak I guess in those two areas.
One day started to remove rear door panel, but something there have been done before, because door audio speaker plastic was meltet to door on purpose so couldn't remove it and step-by-step rest of necessary parts as in youtube video saw and because of it didn't want to break something I decide to put all back. But now it looks like I need to fix these problems ASAP so my air pump wouldn't go down.

By the way off topic - is it possible to find LED light (original orange which I like) which are located in door handles? Only driver side is working. Don't know what is proper name combination for looking it on Internet.
