hi guys, my 2001 ml55 has something odd going on...

ive noticed for the last week or so that the power steering seems to... well stop..

its usually when im pulling into a car park or my driveway, low speed, and i touch the brakes and then next thing no power steering.... then it comes back again...

its like the power steering just... pauses... then i have to really struggle to turn that wheel... and then its back on again....

any ideas ?

i had the reservoir changed about 1 month ago....

This may not be what you want to hear but it is possibly your problem.

ML55 has speed sensitive steering.

This is meant to work by lightening the steering at low speeds and stiffening it at high speeds to aid stability.

When it goes faulty it works in the reverse of the way I've set out above.

The culprit is usually the traction control module which controls this function.

Not a cheap or easy fix.

yeah ive been having a read thru the forums.. sigh, just done the AAM unit, do these cars just like to fail or something????
