Whats up yall, new to the board. Excited to learn some new stuff. i have a 1983 Mercedes 300 diesel. Im thinking my powering steering is low or out (hearing some noise as i turn), but i cannot seem to locate where i fill it at. Im extremly new to older Benz'. And a novice at cars in general too. Anyone know of any pictures or diagrams online that labels everything on the engine? also do the diesels take regualr power steering fluid? Thanks in advance.

Usually MB cars have a resevoir that has a solid metal cap with a large plastic nut on the top of the power steering container. It should be at the top of the engine area towards the front of the motor, around the oil dipstick area. The cap has a spring tension to the cap so press down lightly while you unscrew the plastic nut.

Regards,

I will check it out ASAP. Thanks. Sounds like a dumb question, but theres no special power steering fluid for diesels right?

Fluids

Motor Oil - Chevron Delo or Shell Rotella 15-40

ATF - Dexron 3

Coolant - Zerex G5 or MB Coolant at the dealer

If you have the owner's manual, use that for all your fluid info

Dealer can order you one too.

And of course, FAQ here at B-World.

So far, my favourite 126, the 300SD. Best of luck with it!
