hi,
I'm curious,
I'd like to know if you can reduce the poweroutput of an engine, more specificly of a 190E 2.0 injection.
the engine has now 142 bhp and I'd like to reduce it a bit.

If you guys want to know why in gods name I want to reduce the power of a car, it's because:
first of all it's my first car, and I don't want a car that has a lot of power when I accually can't drive yet, it's just sense of responsability.
second: I think my parents wouldn't like it that I drive around in a little bomb... I know, a 142 bhp isn't that much, and 9.5sec from 0 to 62 isn't that fast, but I think its still a bit to fast for when you just got you license...

anyway, does anyone know IF this is possible, and if so, HOW??? maybe something on the injection???

well, hope some of you know this,

thanx

The easiest way to reduce the power of a car is to not press the acclerator. I would advise against de-tuning a motor since you're going to hurt the motor by making it less efficient. Consider this, having the available power makes the car safer in its ability to avoid hazards, just as a dull tool is more dangerous than a properly maintained sharp one. It's not the car that is unsafe, it's generally the operator.

And yes, I have absolutely no problem at all with me driving slow and responsible, but the problem lays with my parents.

I now have a golfcar for in our garden, and 99% of the time it's driven by me. So I'm trying to drive as responsible and good as possible so my parents would notice...
Hope it works...

I would agree with MTI, it's not the car that neads de-tuning it's the driver that neads improving.
Try somekind of advanced training (we in the UK have the IAM which is voluntry and only costs you around £12 membership and your fuel, as you use your own car) but I'm sure there's a similar organisation in Belgium.
Personnly I think you'll do well as you seem to know that (like everybody else) you have limits and that just because you've a fast car doesn't mean you have to drive fast.

thanks,
I appreciate that.

but,
I have one more question:
The car is already tuned by AMG in the early days, and has now 142hp, so I don't get it why it would hurt if I put it back to 122 BHP.

hm,
thanks anyway

It may not be all that easy to de-tune it to it's original spec. That all depends on what was done to increase the power output to begin with. Things like the exhaust would be easy to revert to original form and possibly an uprated cam. But if it's had any major engineering work like it's crank balanced, ports gas flowed, pistons re-sleeved etc. then it will be easier to just replace the motor.
