I am the proud new owner of a used 2004 W220 500S 4matic. It has the power adjusting exterior and INTERIOR mirror. I can't find anywhere in the manual or anywhere else how to save the interior mirror position in the driver's memories. Every time I get into the car I have to manually set the position of the interior mirror because the saved position assigned to memory is not where I want it. I am unable to save any positions (the saved positions in memory for drivers #2 and #3 are different but no better!) The mirror is autodimming and power and, as I said, I can find absolutely no reference to a power adjusting internal rear view mirror anywhere in the manual so if I need to reinitialize the mirror, I have no instructions for that either.

I've tried manually positioning the mirror, pressing the memory button and then the #1 button on the door hoping it would be saved and as soon as I press the #1 button again (calling up the memory) it returns to the prior (unwanted) position. GRRR!

This is getting quite frustrating. All help would be greatly appreciated.

Frank,

Thanks, but I'm quite certain it is power adjusting. Every time I push any of the three buttons on the driver's side door, the interior mirror moves (to three different positions, depending on which button I push, but none of them are where I want the mirror to be!)

It is a 2004 model year car, manufactured in 09/2003.

I looked up the 2002 version and it has power adjustable interior mirror. It is set the same as the seats. Ignition key in position 1 or 2 or have the driver's door open. Adjust interior mirror, exterior mirror and seat (including headrest) into proper position. Push memory button M and then one of the three numbered memory buttons within three seconds of pushing M.

Redc,

Thanks, but that didn't work - I just tested again. The mirror does not save new positions for any of the memory buttons - it always returns to the same place for #1, a different but non-changing position for #2, and the same for #3.

I'm thinking that maybe the mirror needs to be synchronized like the power windows and roof need to be? Does the manual have any procedures for that?

Anyone have any other ideas?

Druckerman:

The service manual says that there are two motors and two sensors for horizontal and vertical movement and position sensing of the interior mirror. All four parts are within the mirror housing. I could not find information on resetting the sensors as we can with the seats etc.

Thanks. This may be one I'll just need to break down and visit the dealer on. I've got to believe that the sensors and motors are working because, no matter where I manually move the mirror to, when I push one of the memory buttons on the door it will return to the same, wrong location - and a different wrong location depending on which memory button I push. For some reason it is not storing the new location into memory. All of the other settings are successfully being stored - all of the seat positions, the exterior mirrors, the steering wheel. I've got one more thing that I can think of, although it's a long shot - I think I have the key dependent settings set to yes. I'll see if turning that off does anything (although I wouldn't think it should)

redC,

One other thought - I've been manually adjusting the interior mirror. According to the 2002 manual you have, is this mirror supposed to be electrically adjusted and, if so, what switch does that? My door switch only enables me to select the left and right exterior windows.

I checked the owner's manual and it says to manually adjust the interior mirror position then set the position with the memory function along with the seats. It does not mention any electrical adjustment. Same goes for the rest of the Star Service Manual.

I did find a star bulletin (order P-B-68.49/20a) dated July 28, 2004:

"Subject model 220.170/174/175/176/183/184 as of VIN 392659, with code 275A (memory package - driver's seat, steering column, mirrors) Fault codes B10B4 and B10B6 stored in overhead control panel (OCP).

In the above model vehicles should you encounter undeletable fault codes B10B4 and B10B6 stored in the OCP, these fault codes should be ignored as they are caused by unprocessed adaptation of OCP fault codes in STAR DIAGNOSIS. The memory feature for the electrical inside rearview mirror can no longer be ordered and is no longer installed in the series production of the models specified above.

Do not replace the inside rearview mirror or the OCP."

I do not know if this applies to your car since you do have an electrically adjustable interior mirror.

In my W140 it was adjusted electrically (same button then side mirrors) in the W220 adjustment is manually. It should save with seats like you're doing - thats the way mine works you probably have as faulty sensor.

Hello. 2003 S500 W220. I had the same issue with the interior power rear view mirror not saving memory settings and going to a different position with each memory button. I was also having an issue with the sun roof only moving a couple inches at a time when opening. I had the battery replaced recently and see comments many comments on the need to reset various functions. I followed the instructions for resetting the sunroof (press and hold the vent open button for 8 seconds). After I did that the memory function on the power rear view mirror worked fine!

Hi,

Welcome to the Forum.

That is a very useful little nugget of info, I knew about all the Normalising, but I did not know that Normalising Sunroof would do the Rear View Mirror too ;)

I may have put you in the "Benzworld Record Books", as I have immortalised your first post by putting it in our Encyclopaedia here:-
