power antenna replacement (w201)

Has anyone replaced their stock antenna with an aftermarket one? I have been having some difficulty wiring the aftermarket antenna to my 190's stock wiring. The previous owner ripped out the integrated phone, and I think it fried out the old antenna and "brain". Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I replaced the OEM unit with a "univeral" Hirschman. It's not a direct plug replacement, so I had to test what worked with some alligator clips. It works, but the antenna has to be manually switched up or down with the antenna switch (pain in the . . .) rather than it automatically dropping when you turn off the engine. I'm still on the lookout for a decent used OEM unit to eventually replace the universal.

I've always heard the universal or aftermarket ones 'fit all and work for none' My antenna doesn't go up all the way, so when I bite the bullet and replace it, I'm going to go with OEM parts.

As far as putting it in I don't know.
antenna switch

I am currently thinking about getting an antenna switch (maybe from a junk yard) and just hooking it up myself. I'm sure it's a pain, but at least I'll have reception. Thanks for the input!
