If the antenna doesn't go back in all the way, does that just mean it needs to be lubed up, or is there something else that could be causing the problem?

ha!

actually i have the same problem...i think its jsut from being old, I cleaned it till it shone, lubed it up, manually stuck it in an out a bunch of times, but it still doesnt go all the way back in on its own... i think its runs on this electric thing because i took of the plastic panels int he trunk to bail it out (thank god got that leak fixed) and saw a black box at the base of the antenna, but some vacumn lines also ran right past it so youd have to take a closer look to be sure... probbbaly need to replace the whole antenna, im gogin to just get a fixed one so i dont have to keep pulling it up every time i want to listen to the radio...hehe and people give me wierd looks when i run out of the car and pull the antenna up at a red light...

If you clean it use a thin penetrating oil like WD40 as grease or a thick compound oil will just clogg. Get someone to turn the radio on and off whilst you push the aerial in by hand else you'll not be allowing the motor to park when the mast is down.
