Massachusetts potholes are flattening tires on my 2004 E500 at an alarming rate. Tire insurance helps financially, but our confidence in the car and the brand is shaken. Mercedes recommends year-round Continentals or Michelins, and that's it. The service rep says the 17-inch rims are the problem and nothing can be done about it, except move to Florida where the snow and ice doesn't turn the roads into lunar craters. My question: Are there any tire options out there that wouldn't compromise AWD performance but give us better pothole resistance?
