Looking into trading in my land rover for a preowned G500 but have several apprehensions and questions prior to taking a step forward.

How reliable are the G-class series suv's? This vehicle is a 2003 with about 140k miles and I am wondering any issues or things to look into when seeing the vehicle in person.

Would you recommened or suggest an ML (I know they are two very different vehicles, but the notion of an SUV is still the same).

Thanks in advance

The ML and G are completely different vehicles. Both are good. Best comparison is that the ML is a car and the G is a truck.

My 03 has been incredibly reliable but I purchased it from the original owner with up to date maintenance records. If you can get verification that the vehicle has been maintained and it seems well kept you will be leaps and bounds ahead of the game. Of course an ML will give you a completely different experience. If you are looking for a more ride oriented SUV then the ML is most certainly the route to take.

I have not had issues with my 04 outside little things - door handle broke, hood popper spring replaced etc. I don't think a G in good condition with a good service history would be that problematic compared to other things. At the end of the day its a vehicle and things will go wrong sometime, so you just need to be prepared to pay. If you can't afford to pay, don't buy a vehicle.

As per the G and ML, thats not apples to apples. Completely different vehicles really.

Check out the "TC stuck in neutral" problem some of these trucks seem to have. I have this problem with my 03, about once a month at least. I learn to live with it, except when my wife has to take it and I worry she will be stuck in traffic which happened once. You can learn to live with it, but it can be annoying.

That can be fixed. Read the link in the other thread.

The Rover is complete peace of shit. The two trucks have nothing in common.
I have G that is year model 1994 and note this I didn't have any problems, repeat not one.The only thing is changing oil and filling petrol.
If you can get rid of the ROVER, GO!
