Recently finished a new bumper and winch mount for my ML some pictures of the process and final product. Don't mind the messy shop :)

Hi Guys ,

The car had an old basic Radio that wasn´t the orignal factory one . I replaced it for a Bluetooth Kenwood unit but kept the original speakers and i am quite happy with them. I also installed a rear camera on the number plate holder that conencts directly to the radio and displays as soon as i engage reverse. Both items with installation set me back EUR400

Quick Question, know you are in Malta but on the radio did you by-pass the factory amp and it's fiber optic connection? Would love to change out the factory unit
to have Bluetooth and Appleplay on our 03 ml500, if I got it right yours is an 03 too.

Photos were to large my bad.
Nice Build!!

I did a tube style bumper a few pages back. Wish I had your shop!! I slumped it out in a driveway with an Ikea coffee table turned on end with some OSB as a work surface. Im also working on rear with tire swing to match as we speak.

How did you end out mounting the front bumper? I welded adaptor plates so I could take it off easily. Im trying to simplify a better bolt on mounting solution so I can manufacture these for some people that are requesting them. Next design wont be welded but just bolt on. I assume you drilled holes and didn't utilize the preexisting ones.

Did you weld on nuts to the chassis?

How much of the stock bumper did you cut off the ends?

Thanks! My brother is a machinist so i have the luxury of a few extra shop tools at my disposal (and someone that can teach me how to use them) so thats definitely handy for these sorts of projects. As for mounting i ended up cutting the original bumper back just outside of the frame rails then welding mounting plates to the ends of the bumper and drilled holes in that to mount my bumper. I did this so that if you pull on the tow lugs of the bumper you basically pull straight on the frame so hopefully nothing bends or breaks and also because the passenger side of the bumper was pretty deformed at the end(previous owner must have had some sort of accident i guess). Definitely some things i would change on it if i had to do it again. For instance if i take the bumper off for any type of service i want to pull the winch out and weld the nuts for mounting the bumper because they are a real pain to put on and tighten. here's the picture of the mounting plates and also and longer shaft for the clutch lever so the handle sits on top of the bumper. i can get you a picture of how the bumper mounts up tomorrow if you want.

My daughter is so thrilled. 01 ML430. Only 135K kms on this one. Needs absolutely nothing.
It's her graduation gift and for her scholarship awards. Now she has NO excuse to borrow ours..
Belonged to my neighbor (original owner) down the street. I've been servicing this one for him for the last few years when he first moved into the neighborhood. A sweet barter deal. Going to take it for a spin this nice evening. I'll let her do the driving and play the passenger. :)

Previous owner dualled the exhaust straight pipes and added the amg tips (I think he got them from ebay back then).

Man, this 430 has a good kick to it. Glad my daughter took the evasive maneuvers DLs along with her regular DL classes a few years ago. She knows/handles this suv quite well. I feel more comfortable (as a dad) she has this vs. the "crumple zone" sub-compacts littering the roadways.

I am planning to buy ML 320 CD 4Matic 2005-2006 model. I need an advice as to what highly probable areas I should be prepared to encounter as failures.
I currently own a ML320 2001 model petrol engine since 2012 with very less encounters. I need to change the car. Thanks!

The new owners of my trusty Millennium Falcon sent me this today, complimenting how well she did in the snow on a trip up north.

I'm feelin' all nostalgic now. I miss her. :crying:crying:crying
You could not of had a Millennium Falcon we did, she was a 1998 silver Ford Windstar complete with peeling paint. She is an organ donor now after 238,000 miles I visit her at the old folks home (pick apart) a 1/4 mile from my house every now and then.

Took a trip down to Pismo Beach (500 mile round trip) this weekend. My 99 ML430 felt like a new car....no overheating despite triple digits on the way down, AC blew cold....no issues. She did great in the sand in low range. Didn’t hit the dunes, but definitely took her in some deep sand. What a blast. Best thing about the ML is taking it in snow and sand.

I bought mine a year ago in Portland Oregon for $1300 and drove it home to eastern Washington. I have always loved German SUVs from this era, they were more purpose built and less minivan/crossover like newer versions. I've fixed mine up a lot over the last year and my family and I have fallen in love with it.
