As far as I understand, the buzzer is included within a convenience module behind the dashboard which is very expensive to replace to begin with. Maybe taking apart the module to rewire the buzzer with a bell type warning alarm could be done by a tech oriented person, but who knows, messing with MB modules is always a risk.

The sound is there to grab your attention. The Germans are very smart automotive engineers so i would say do not mess with it IMHO. :)

You might mess up something in the module and have to replace the expensive unit. Good luck.

OR you could get lights wired to the ignition so they go on when you turn the key but you can still turn them off with the knob...but iam not sure how hard that would be.

I was wondering if it's possible to hook up some other sort of sound to replace the old buzzer that comes on when you leave the lights on etc...

Thanks!
thats a great idea! I would rather have a chime than a buzzer sound off

I'll tell you what grinds my gears about that buzzer is not so much the sound but I stop the car and whilst I'm grabbing my phone or something like that the passanger opens the door and the damn thing goes off! What were they expecting that the driver would exit via the passanger door?

Well, I confirmed it with the shop manager today. The buzzer sounds come from a convenience module hidden behind the central console which controls a bunch of other things besides the lights on feature.

Expensive and very very very tricky to switch the buzzer to a chime warning (could be done by an expert technician, but again, at a high risk price, since the convenience module may overload and stop working completely).

I agree with all previous comments on the subject: yes, the buzzer is annoying, but that is what is really designed for (to get your attention).

The nice rhythmic bell sound from a late model Range Rover I use to drive always makes me to forget to turn off the lights. The sound is just to melodic and quiet to really pay any attention to it.

Purchased a new 1985 500SL in Germany, took to AMG in Affalterbach, had a bunch of work done on car. Technician there asked me whether I wanted the buzzer's "normal" sound changed to a chime, I said yes. Still have car, with barely 9,000 miles on it! Will look where ever the sound of the chime comes from and see if the changes can be easily done... I will follow up with my findings!

I would love to know what they did and how it works. A buzzer mod done by AMG themselves! Perhaps we could replicate it.

Before you attempt to replace the buzzer, consider this. I've been in vehicles (MB's) with the nice "chime" rather than the buzz... the noise in the newer cars is so pleasant, I didn't remember to take the keys out..

The buzzer is so annoying, you can't help but to pay attention to what you're doing... so, as annoying as it might be, it works great!!!
