I understand that this issue has been discussed quite extensively. So if anyone asked, I did do a search. Anyways, like the title says the range of my key fobs are pretty poor. I am still lucky to have kept both of my original keyfobs when I bought my truck in November 20, 2000. I remember the range being pretty decent back then. Now I literally have to be within 10-15 feet and with in a clear line of sight for my key fobs to actually engage lock/unlock/panic functions. Key fob Batteries are brand new. Car battery is brand new and recently tested.

From what I read here:

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w163-m-class/1677893-remote-start-push-start-keyless-entry.html

It's my understanding the communication method for these key fobs is via FM modulation? Yes? In post #3 of the provided link shows the picture of keyfob antenna attached to the AAM? My question where does the wire lead to? Does that connect to the GPS/FM/TELEAID amplifier? If so, where is unit located? If related, would replacing that unit with a new or remanufactured one resolve the poor range? Or would acquiring the GPS antenna mast might work? Maybe not huh?

Thanks

The antenna is attached to the AAM & is hanging........ Inside the AAM , the antenna is attached to a small board which receives the signals from the remote. There is no GPS/FM/Teleaid........Open the fusebox, I mean lift the part where the fuses are & you will see the AAM attached to the side. Antenna is a blue wire attached to the AAM. Make sure it is properly in the socket.

Thanks for your replies. To be clear, it seems what you folks are saying is the Key Fob antenna attached to the AAM is independent to the radio antenna amplifier? So therefore messing the antenna amplifier, which I just learned of it's location at the tailgate, will improve nothing and just waste my time? Ok, so that blue antenna cable attached to the AAM....how about splitting that line and creating a loop in the hood, essentially making a larger antenna. Or should I stay far and clear from such foolish thoughts?

A lot of antennas are of a specific length. Probably best to leave it be. Do what art said and make sure it's connected ok.

w210 owners have lived with the diminished range for some time. one trick we
deploy isnto point the business end of the smartkey and touch it against your lower jaw...then press the remote for un/lock. see if this provides you with a few
more feet of added range

As described by members already, another Troll to ignore.

aka Troll has already posted the same Q on w210. WTFudge.....
No user CP update, just plenty of same Qs that most likely can be answered using the search feature or in the sticky, as indicated to Troll by other members and mod.

Onto better things like doing some reading on all the good info in these forums.
