I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction as to what model this bumper is or what aftermarket company makes it? Those are different pictures, but I think it's the same bumper model.

Also, since we're at it, what mirrors are the ones mounted in the one pictured on the right? Seems like the R230 ones. If I'm on the right track, does anyone knows what modifications are involved to change them?

Those are custom made bumpers by a guy in Malaysia iirc. As far as I know they don't make them to sell.

The side mirrors are off a R230 and they modified the triangular piece for it to fit, but you can achieve the same thing by simply buying mirrors off a 99-02 R129. Get the entire mirror housing including the triangular mounting point and they are a direct bolt on, but depending on your year r129 you may need new plugs as they were changed. These appear on eBay from time to time. You can add LED turn signals by buying new covers which I think are still also available on eBay.

As far as the bumper, if it's custom made, it's going to be pretty much impossible to find. I think it looks really good!

Those are the covers but they will not fit on 1998 mirrors. They only fit on the 1999 on style mirrors as pictured. So you will need to find some 99 on complete to do the mod.

The mirror triangles are a direct fit. Connectors will need to be changed and indicator light wires connected to the mirrors. Mine were also fitted with light sensitive down lights that need to be wired to the interior door light. There is plenty of info on this mod if required.

Good. Today I found a pair of R230 mirrors complete with the attachments at one of the local junk yards. Covers were all scratched up, but they need to be changed anyway. Got a good deal on them and went for it.

This beauty is looking better & better every day!

The mirrors off an R230 will not bolt on correctly to the R129, modifications to the triangular part will be needed. Depending on the body shop doing it, it may not be worth the expense.

Ok, so we have some contradicting information here. Poundy says they will fit and he seemed to have done it looking from the pictures posted.

I really would love to shed some light on this before embarking further in the adventure.

There seems to be a little confusion due to the eBay seller saying that this style mirror will fit the R129 and CLK which it is my understanding that this is incorrect. The mirrors off the 99-02 R129s, R170/1 SLKs, 208/9 CLKs, and 230 SLs all used that same style mirror where I think the housing and internals are the same but the triangular piece that bolts onto the car are all different. I know at minimum that the ones off an R230 and R170 will not bolt onto our cars correctly.

The simplest way to do this upgrade is to find a set of mirrors that came off an R129 as it will bolt directly to the car with zero issues. What you will find is that identical mirrors off those other models are alot less money but won't truly fit. Hope that helps.

Ok, I see. Re-reading all posts, Poundy refers to the 99 as well.
So now I get it. Assuming I want to do this mod, I would need:

1999 Mirrors with housing and attachments

Modifications done because of attachment difference

Modifications to electrical connectors to fit

New outside covers with V design.

Pete is right in saying that I should find one all ready! (easier said than done tho)

Ok so what you need to make it as simple as possible is buying side mirrors off any 99-02 R129. If you get them they bolt directly onto our cars with 0 modification, what you will need to do is either order different plugs or wire it directly as the plugs will be different.

That eBay seller may have listed wrong but he is the seller most or all of us have bought the mirror covers from. If you get them just make sure you send a comment with your payment letting him know you want the mirror covers for an R129.

I'm a little confused here. You said you purchased mirrors off an R230 and those will not bolt onto the R129. So even if you buy the LED covers and install them on the mirrors you got off the R230 it won't fit. The covers may be compatible as I only think the difference from the R170/R230 mirrors to the R129 mirrors is the triangular piece, the mirror housing look all the same to me.

I understand where the confusion comes from because I was confused in the beginning too. Let me try to clarify the situation:

I was offered a great deal on a pair of R230 model from the local junkyard and thought I would get them before knowing better.

Then, after reading all your posts, I realized what the differences are between the prior 98 and 99/02 models and what it really takes in order to do the mod. So I decided not to get the R230 model from the junkyard.

After some searching on eBay, I realized the easiest way to achieve what I want (for my 98) is to get this ones:

I communicated with the seller all evening and make sure the description is correct and the part is actually the one I need. So, that's covered and
it would be just like replacing the stock cover with an aftermarket re-made part; no mods involved. Everybody wins!

You can read the entire thing but the information that is important to you starts on the post that I linked. I don't think the mirror covers you linked to will fit. I could be wrong and you will be the first to have the square type mirrors with LED. Another thing to remember is that there are three styles of mirrors 90-96, 97-98 and 99-02 so the listing saying that it fits all R129s 95-98 is incorrect. AFAIK no one with the square type R129 mirrors have successfully installed LED turn signal lights. Proceed with caution.

Last night after concluding the purchase I sent the exact part number to be modified to the seller and made absolutely sure he understood what I had and what I wanted. (attached).

I guess that now we should just sit and wait till I get them, then we'll know.
