Hi,

I'd be very careful about getting anywhere near MB Database with a clone, never heard that one, normally it just nukes them !!

That bit about them getting locked out is because of the Dates, it refers to Genuine MB Systems, not clones, and basically it is MB's way of making the guys with genuine machines upgrade their s/w, because it times out and expires, so it won't work after say 3 new releases or similar.
AFAIK it does not mean you can buy 2019 s/w and go to MB Server with it :eek:

In general I was told that early 2012 and 2016 s/w is the best for different reasons. 2012 actually should have the SCN Database on it for up to 2012 Cars, and 2016 is a late one that is very good.

I have always used a third party who does pay subscription and has Server access to do SCN Coding via Team Viewer, I am actually doing a TV for Trans Coding this afternoon with a guy.

If this Is Tony's machine we are talking about then that would be a big big bonus for me as I bought one , but I seriously doubt it, he'd be adding a couple of zero's on the price if they could do that one, guys have been trying to crack that for years lol :D
I will speak with him and see what the score really is ;)

Part of the reason I wanted to do the C4, is because I can use the most recent software, which means that if I have to do any of the online coding stuff (like the speed sensor takes a dump on my gen 1 722.9 tranny and I have to replace the valve body), I can get into the MB database and do it. Apparently versions prior to 2018.X have been locked out. The rest of the time I could use the 2016.X software release for if the vehicle is behaving somewhat. :)
I think your software version cannot be older than 6-9 month so if you do scn you need to keep the sw up to date. But you can always try it will tell you to update if your version is to old.

Hi Paul,

That is what I was told, MB release s/w every 3 months and you can be up to 3 months out of date then it won't do SCN ;) ......................

However, surely the Clones can't access MB Server without getting nuked ?

or are MB now doing PAYG ??

(It's been a while since I discussed this so maybe they have realised a market) ?

I had a very clever man do TV with me Friday, he custom coded EGS 52 for my V8 R170 very very clever man, it now has a Manual Mode insted of winter, V8 Geartrain Ratios and 2.87 Diff :D

Tagging @Dave2302 in case he has any brilliant ideas!

i p'd something off. I installed the headlamp leveling module, connected the diagnostic wire on both headlamps, and connected then to the appropriate places. The connections are good I’ve checked.

When I go to look at either headlamps, headlamp range adjustment, OR the instrument cluster in DAS, I get a “cannot initialize” error.

Everything is functioning fine from a day to day perspective. I was able to get into the HRA module once but never again.

Did I brick a bunch of modules or is there an issue with my bootleg STAR?

Surprised you guys can do online SCN coding with your current thing. I have a guy who sets up my laptop (yes, even IT have their own IT guys! 🤣) and he loads up so much cracks, bypasses, fixes, double fixes and everything in between that I'm surprised the laptop even runs afterwards. He tells me MB is seriously cracking down on the clone SDS connecting to online SCN, so they're blocking off services, softwares, even network packets left and right if Xentry detects a blacklisted C4.... which is fairly easy to do, since ALL clone C3 and C4 share the same serial numbers range.

Also rules have changed now, before you could go a year out of date of current release and still do online SCN coding. Now it's every 3 months....in other words, as soon as the newest Xentry is released the old one is blocked from online coding. It's pretty irritating, if I'm honest.

But if online coding is not what you need, then no need for regular updates.

Only when attempting to use the EPC function on my MB4 Star software do I get this error message. I am only attempting to access the parts data on the hard drive. I am not attempting to access the MB Corporate EPC site.

You need to create all keys in startkeycenter and ewa usually the keygens are somewhere on the computer if not pm me.

Something new - here is a video showing a Russian using a MINI-VCI J2534 interface cable and the usual XENTRY software to run diagnostics on a Mercedes - with no multiplexer or cables!

Since the cable is available for $12 - $15, I think that I might give it a try...

Since the cable is available for $12 - $15, I think that I might give it a try...
I tried the mini VCI could not get it to work, but a VAS5054a works well on my 2004 and 2014 MB.
You need a passthru version of xentry.
I have also used a mongoose pro successfully.

Works well on a lot of MB's, the newer the better, will absolutely not work on a lot of older cars especially those that require HHT-Win emulator program, like my 2002 R170, ML's of the same Vintage etc etc ;)

I just loaded an 07/2015 version of Xentry onto a Dell D630, so that a friend could have access to WIS for his "new" W221 (Airmatic problems). When I try to start WIS, it starts Internet Explorer, and just sits and waits, with a message that Internet Explore can't open this page.

Any suggestions?

Assuming you using win xp, I found it works better on win7.
Make sure you ewa server is running
Go to start-/ewa/EWA Admin Tool
In overview all traffic lights should be green
Under EPC and WIS you should see a database and the status should be started.

The EWA Admin Tool shows that the WIS database is not installed, and that the EWA application server is offline. If I remember correctly, the WIS database installation is hunting for a file called WISCD1 (it may have been WISCD01). I have not been able to find this file. Searching is a bit more difficult because STAR Explorer doesn't find it, and my software installation cripples Windows Explorer.

I have a disk partition called WIS, with folders 201412, db, ProgramData, Programme, Service, and temp.

Folder 201412 contains 128 folders: 26 ini; 12 cab ;45 dll; and 1 setup.exe - (which says that I can't run setup because I don't have a startkey for Xentry Developer. I have three keygen programs, none of which will generate an acceptable Xentry Developer key. I have managed to generate acceptable ECP, WIS and XentryDAS keys). This folder also includes a STAR.lic" file; a setup,inx file; and a data1.id file, none of which I can open.

The db Folder contains the databases for ECP and WIS

The ProgramData folder is empty.

The Programme folder is empty.

The Service Folder contains 12 folders that appear to set up various parts of the program. I am hesitant to run random setup programs without a lot of investigation.

The temp Folder contains an OnlineUpdate folder, and I am staying away from that one.

Between struggling with ATA vs. AHCI, and now not getting the WIS database installed, I have spent hours on this...
