Decent first guess. You have been buying top-tier premium, right? It's so little of a cost difference from unbranded gas and can avoid problems. Might throw in some HEET in case it's water in the gas, or Techron in case it plugged an injector.

Actually it wouldn't, and I had the same issue. Cleaning the MAFS seemed to correct the problem. How many miles does your coupe have on it? My MAFS finally gave out at 120k miles. All the signs are there of bad MAF, and still no CEL... Have a new one on order right now from Autohausaz. $250 dollars...

On your car it's behind the air filter box on top, center. Search the forum for pictures. Just don't confuse 2002C230 with your, different engine, different MAF.

What more likely happened is when you take short trips, the engine doesn't get a chance to warm up, it leaves moisture deposits in the combustion chamber and next time you start it you may see the water vapor in the exhaust and the engine may stumble a bit, all normal. Or it could be CPS about to go out, time will tell.
