Hey everyone,

I don't get the car for a week, and I don't have the user manual, but I am really anxious to know what some of these buttons/switches are for in the car. Could anyone please shed some light? Thanks!

Re: A= rear entry lights on/offB= entry lights auto operate when door openC= front entry l...

by the way, I have never seen a W140 with zebrano wood before....i guess this makes yours all the more unique [8D]
Thanks! You guys are really helpful!

You call that wood "zebrano"? Hmmm . . . I just thought it was like some kind of Oak with a dark wood grain. What kind of wood do you guys have? Most likely burlwood or something?

E/S Switch . . .

I also noticed that your gearbox seems to be missing the E/S switch to the left of the selector. This is used to switch the shift pattern between standard and economy.
What kind of W140 do you drive? I have the 300SE, which has a 5-speed automatic transmission. I have read that model with larger engines have a 4-speed automatic transmission. Possibly, you have the E/S switch because your car has overdrive, where as mine has the 5th gear?? Can anyone verify this?

In my part of the world we dont ever use winter tyres or snow chains so our cars are not equipped with the snow chain switch that you have marked on your diagram with an 'E'.
I wonder why I have a button for snow chains? I have a Canadian model, but snow chains are ilegal in Canada . . .

Re: Re: E/S Switch . . .

I have a April 1994 300SEL/S320 with 4 speed auto transmission. My car is not equipped with overdrive. The E/S switch merely changes the shift pattern and has nothing to do with restricting gears.
Oh I see . . . I wonder why my car doesn't have that then. . . now I wish it did! Maybe this was an option, or was a feature that was not introduced until 1994. Does anyone know?

As for the snow chain button, we cant quite make out from the picture what of the button actually shows. Its merely an assumption.
I thought that the button looked like it had a snow-covered tire on it. I firgured that it had something to do with winter driving, but I don't have the user manual to find out exactly what it does. Maybe it is for some kind of ice traction system or something? I ahve no idea . . . I would take a better picture, but I don;t get the car for about a week. these are just pictures of the car that I took when lookig at it at the dealer. (And I used all of these pictures to convince my Dad that he really needed this car [;)]
