I have an MB 1997 E320 L6. I was changing the spark plugs yesterday and the yellow hose is so brittle it just breaks. MB dealers is close today so I'm trying to know more about these in the mean time. Does anyone know what is the functions of these hose? Sorry I'm a total newbie and knows nothing around cars.

Hi, that the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) valve. Its not a rush fix unless you need it to pass smog. it helps re-burn hydrocarbons at low temperatures (startup). You should get a new clear pipe to where the to other end is. It should be fine to drive.

The egr

on your diesel is vacuum powered, repair that line or you will have stalling problems from an open to atmosphere leak.
