I am restoring a '82 380 SL and the top is good except for the plastic windows. I have found a uphostery shop that will sew in new windows for $145 if I take the top off the frame, $395 if I don't. Anyone ever remove a soft top from frame and if so are there any secrets that I should know before doing this project?

Thanks, C.R. Ray
San Pedro, CA

A new top is $379
www.performanceproducts.com

Performance Products carries brand new tops for $379 already, so if you can't remove the top yourself, you might as well purchase a new one altogether.

Also, that price is for the non-german soft top. German soft top is $475.

You may just what to put on a new top, because if you remove the old one it may not sit right, or better yet start to leak on you. Is it a after market top?

I had an after market top once that after two years it started to leak all over the place, it was like a cartoon... the way water was coming in.
