Does the M-class suffer from the plastic radiator hose neck problem? That is, is the neck prone to breaking off if the upper radiator hose is clamped too tightly? This was a problem with older Mercedes sedans.
I checked and was amazed that the ML radiator still has this weakness. The upper hose connector neck on the M-class radiators is made of plastic and will break if the hose clamp is over tightened. The fix was a new radiator with an inner metal reinforcement. I am baffled as to why the metal liner is currently absent.
I had the hose connector break twice on an 1989 S-class sedan. As one can imagine, this resulted in an immediate loss of most of the cooling fluid. I was able to stop the car in time in both cases.
