Any tips on changing the Pitman arm seal on an '84 380SL. Is there a way of removing the old seal other than turning the wheel to extreme left or right utilizing the pressure to pop the seal?

Once the arm is taken off using
a puller, the seal has nothing holding it in. The pressure will push it out when turning the wheel to the extreme right or left but it also makes a mess. I was just wondering if there was another method or tool that could be used.
Of course the engine is running and the power steering pump is the pressure that pushes the seal out.
That's the only way I have ever done it on any other car I've had the good luck of having to change the seal.

Well that's a new one on me. I didn't think the pitman arm on my steering box was that close to the seal. I guess I'll have to check that out.

Picture...the seal is behind C- clip, you have to remove it too.

It will be interesting to hear if it pops out. I am supriced if there is that high pressure behind this rubber lip seal.

There is no high pressure behind the seal. You can take the 4 bolts out and remove the whole seal housing and just pry it out if you cant get it out on the car.
