Get rid of the AMG on the trunk would make it even "cleaner"! []

NO SL 500s came with AMG badging, the ONLY R129 to come from the factory with AMG badging was the ultra-rare SL 55 AMG, check production statistics... I have mint AMG 3-pc. wheels in winter storage for this car. My 97 SL 500 is my summer driver, has sport package and 18 in. AMG wheels as well. One of my businesses is a dealership specializing in used Mercedes and Porsche, I have only come across ONE true R129 AMG SL 55 in the last five years, and I usually have a few SLs in inventory. Maybe I can get you out of that soccer-mom ML and into a G500! Just kidding. Visit my website:

Not entire true. The SL that´s counts as AMG, is the cars tune by AMG and sold by MB. That is three of them. The SL55 with the new V8 engine, the SL60 with M119 engine and SL73 (V12). Thats the only true R129 AMGs from Mercedes that come with the AMG badge.foreyes - 2/27/2005 11:43 PM

I am having a shop in Southern California do the work. Their name gets deleted on this forum- which is funny, because I can't find anyone among our sponsors who can do a CARB legal SC on my car.foreyes - 2/27/2005 3:27 AM
Hi again! That emblem always bothered me; the previous owner (dis)graced the decklid with it, but I figured it went well with the AMG wheels, but with the stock winter set on, that AMG badge did sort of stick out like a tricycle with mudflaps. Your post solidified this fact, so this afternoon, armed with some dental floss and soapy water, badge-b-gone. Fill me in on your Kleeman boost project, the M119 motor is nearly bulletproof, and should take to pressurizing well, then you can swap the AMG badge for a Kleeman! I have added an HPS supercharger to a base model 99 Boxster, which was a simple project except for ECU recalibration, but the SL project is far more interesting to me. Are you doing the work yourself? Post pics of the project on the forum as it unfolds, if you have a good experience I will boost my '97. it would be fun to go hunting for C5 Corvettes with the top down on a nice summer morning... []
Hello Tom.foreyes - 2/27/2005 9:48 AM
Hi Walther,
Your SL is nice, we do not have that shade of blue here in the U.S. We have salt on the roads here in WI as well, but I wash the 91 three times a week during the winter months. This car has been driven EVERY winter since new. There is only one problem spot for corrosion on the R129 body, around the rear taillights and licence plate valence, as well as the metal panels directly underneath the headlights where the headlight wiper arms are mounted. My 91 is rust-free, but I have bought and sold other 90-95 SLs where these areas had one or two tiny rust bubbling spots. Besides washing the car frequently during winter months, frequent use of a Carnauba-based wax like Zymol is your best defense, also get minor paint chips corrected ASAP, before corrosion sets in. Summer is just around the corner! Is the SL rare in Scandinavia? There are quite a few in southern WI, being close to Chicago.
Regards,
Tom

Mine has the same badge. It came with the car.
What's the problem?
AMG bodywork. AMG wheels. 500 HP Kleeman supercharged engine (in two weeks anyway).
