So this is the first new car I've ever purchased, all my others have been 2+ years old with 10,000+ miles. This one has just 55 miles.

I purchased it for my wife, but I'm concerned about a 'break in' period..

Should she keep it under certain speeds for awhile,
should the oil be changed within a short period?

Does the R come with synthetic oil, if not, should we switch after the first oil change? I own other Mercedes, a land rover, Ferrari and a maserati.. All run on Mobil 1, 0W40. Can this one get on this as well?

Any other new car helpful hints. My wife likes to keep cars for more than 5 years, I want to do things from the start that will keep it reliable all the way through

The break-in information should be in the owner's manual, if it isn't just ask the service manager at the dealership. I believe all new Mercedes passenger cars come with synthetic motor oil from the factory. And whenever you have the oil changed at the dealer they will more than likely use Mobil 1 0W-40 in your vehicle.

All current mercedes gas engines use specific MB oil standard called 229.5 USE ONLY THIS! do not use 229.51 as it is only for mb diesel. The oil container MUST SAY meets MB229.5

attached is an extract from 2007 approved fluids pamflet. I am sure there is a new one available.

Well I did it, drove my family down to a dealer outside off Chicago, Mercedes of Naperville, and picked my wife's new R.

Wow,I could go on and on about how nice the treatment we received for Michael and the whole staff. They laid out out the charcoal carpet for my wife and really went over the car in detail so she understood and had the basics of how every thing works. I splurged on this purchase and this R350 has, I believe, every available option. It's a remarkable car wagon SUV.

It's only now I realize how ignorant my thread here, is. I prepaid the scheduled services up to 5 years, extended the warranty to 7 years and purchased an appearance pkg to 5 years so I just don't have to worry about this car. I don't know how crazy that was, but peace of mind had a price yesterday.

I look forward to experiencing it and posting things here a long the way, at first impression , now only a day old, I'm very very impressed with this Mercedes Benz.

For the record, it's a 2012 350 with 15 miles on the OD. It's Capri Blue and I don't believe it is with out an available option, from xenons to dual dvd's, it is as current in tech that I have ever experienced.

Wish us luck, thanks for the help. And if you have any advice, I'd love to read it.
