Greetings All.

Since My Little One Broke My Cruise Control Arm, I Needed To Replace.

I Went Ahead And Photo Documented The Affair, For All To See, Just In Case You Needed To Remove Yours. I Included The Extra Bits To Tighten The Control Column, Just In Case Yours Is Loose (ie, You Use The Turn Signal, And The Whole Column Rotates).

Please Note, The Wis Specifies Disconnecting The Battery Prior To Work. I Just Left The Car For Awhile To Let The Power In The Airbag
Dissipate.

I Claim No Expertise, And Am Just Working Off The Wis. Work At Your Own Risk.

Any Comments Or Suggestions Are Appreciated.

Apparently, "PART II" got separated from from PART I Here it is:

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w140-s-class/1290718-photo-diy-steering-wheel-removal-part.html

PLEASE NOTE CORRECTION!!!! THE TORX BIT SHOWN BELOW SHOULD BE
T30!!!

ADDENDUM: PART 2 STARTS HERE

This is a very good writeup, can I suggest that you post a link to it in the "knowledge base" sticky at the top of the W140 forum, I would do it but you should really get the credit and put your name by it.

Just click on the original knowledge base post and click reply. It's worth reposting the entire posts with pics in the knowledge base, if you have the patience.

Can't Upload

I'm sorry, I've tried several permutations of copying the URL above to upload to
the knowledge base, and each time it says "invalid file."

If anyone can get it to go, feel free!!

WARNING!!!!!

IT HAS BEEN POINTED OUT TO ME THAT THE "CORRECT" TORX BIT IS T30, NOT T25!!

(For reference, though, I have done this operation four times with the T25 with NO problems.)

I think to remove the rear bolts it is T27.

Guys its T30!!! i've been using t25 and managed to screw up one of the torx on left side, but then i thought lets try T27 and finnaly T30 worked ok, also be super careful with torque (correct should be 15nm) but i keep mine barely tightened as if you managed to twist one off it will be bitch to get out...

Great write up.

I have changed the steering wheel 4 times on my W203 Coupe, from leather to 3 spoke wood to 4 spoke wood and back to leather, so I have all these tools and it really is an easy task.

I have several times not disconnected the battery, bt technically you should disconnect and wait 30 minutes so the capacitors run down. Just a little more of safety.

Yea, you just had to rub it in with wearing that Rolex too didn't you? :p
progsounds, didn't you know that is an internal verification to ensure the DIY is actually by G-AMG? Like Superman in a Seinfeld episode, you have to look for Rolex in each of his DIYs. :D

Nice job, G.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

TerryTubs-- Yes I did correct the Mistake. You are correct, it IS a T30 bit to remove the Airbag.

I PDF'd it and added it to the knowledge base - I'll be adding the names of the member who's DIY it is from now on to the file name.

Thanks again G-AMG!
