Wow.. when I rains? It POURS!!

It has been "Leaking Oil on the Garage Floor, Central" at my house. Between the Leaking M112 (W210) and the M113 (W463) Valve/Breather Covers, and now the M119 (W140)? This is becoming my new Full-Time job... :^(

Anyhoooo, apparently this is a very Common Oil Leaking location on these Engines.

This is a REALLY Easy DIY solution.

Please note: The Specified Sealant 001 989 89 20 10, apparently is the EXACT same thing as Loctite 574. The price difference between the Two? Negligible.

Be sure to let the Sealant Cure completely BEFORE starting the Motor. It looks from the Curing Charts that 24 hours (at a 22C shop temp) is a good interval.

Nice write up. The bolts actually dont need sealant, and i found out you have to have to put on a thick amount of sealant. The first time i did mine i did a really light coat and it started pouring from there. That sealant works pretty good, its a bit pricy but its a good sealant. By the way sometimes the camshaft adjustor itself leaks near the connector.

From personal experience. When performing this procedure on the passergers side (US), I found that removing the the bolt that holds the dipstick and the air pump check valve(APCV) bracket, and then slightly prying the (APCV) to the left allowed access to one of the lower bolts holding the magnet.

Yes, I tried a ball end hex, all to no avail.

Hey Ruthless..

I really hate to disagree. While checking on the status of my recent Re-Sealing Job, I was curious how my *THIN* Coat of Sealant looked. As you can see, even with such a small amount of sealant? It is nicely "Oozing" out of the Interface, forming (what "I" believe to be) a Nice seal.

After reviewing the Loctite 574 Literature (which is the Orange Gooop in the M-B Tube), it looks like the MAXIMAL Coat thickness should be 0.25 Millimeters. A quater of a Millimeter is pretty darn "Thin Coat" in my book.

Just a Follow-Up for all. As you can see, all is Dry as a bone!

Now, to deal with the OTHER source of Leak.... Valve Cover Gasket!! Dooohhhh

It could be recomended really thin but that thing leaked when i did it thin. I never like gooping on sealant. Best of luck on your valve cover gasket. Its pretty easy and i actually am going to do mine to see if my sluge issue is getting better or not.

An excellent guide - thank you. I need to do this job on my S420.

Can someone confirm if one tube is enough to do both the driver and passenger side covers?
One tube is about 7/8 ths of a tube more than you will need. A little goes a long way. You don't want it squeezing out everywhere, because excess can float thru the engine, and can block oil passages.

Should the thin coat be inside the four "Tits" on the surface, to keep it from oozing inside the oil path. Seems like an application inside of that would be enough to seal the surface.

Also how do the beauty covers come off the front of the M120. I do not want to break them getting them off.

Pull the middle cover with the star on it toward the front of the car and remove it. Lift up on the outside edge of each of the beauty covers to release the catch, and lift them straight up, one at a time. There is a metal catch towards the inside of the engine on each cover. You can help it snap off the posts it's clamped around.

You are correct about the amount of sealant to use. Don't need much.

Thanks!!!

I ordered a new one and the MB sealant from AutoHausAz.

I should have said keep the sealant on the Outside of the "Tits" to prevent the sealant from oozing into the oli side.

I just finished the drivers side. Will let it sit overnight. Has a perfect minor bulge of gasket material. Had to remove the radiator hose to access the inboard bolt. Will top off the surge tank as I lost a little antifreeze. After checking for oil leaks, I will return the beauty covers. Took about 2 hours. I dropped my hex socket and had to fish it out which cost me about 20 minutes and several expletives.
