you may want to check all your fuel lines (sorry i dont

know where they are located in the benz) for cracking or leaking around the clamps.

i know in my nissan this has always been a problem, every year i have to inspect my fuel hoses for leaks.

good luck.

usually the hoses leak when the car is cold and when the engine warms up the fuel evaporates & gives off smell, you want to check when the car is very cold, if you suspect a leak a good trick is to put some baby powder on the hose and see if it gets wet.
