There's not a lot out there. First, the cold air intakes being sold out there, they're "warm air intakes" and don't perform any better than the true cold ram air intake that Mercedes has already built for the car.

Second, consider upgrades to the suspension and brakes before any engine tuning, which is where you'll get the most performance gain anyway.

There aren't any really cheap ways of getting more HP out of these engines. There's the initial design limitations . . . the W201 was built to be a highway cruiser and a curve cutter, not a rocket sled. Torque and gearing all attest to that. Even AMG, when tuning the M102 and M103 motor, did it with cams and pistons, since there was no easy way to get more HP. There are no "chips" or electronic tuning parts like EFI systems have. To get more HP you have to do it the old fashioned way . . . clean up the flow, reduce friction and obstructions, bore & stroke, or go away from normal aspiration and head into the land of turbo, superchargers or nitrous. By that time, you can do the math and see that it would be cheaper to just get a used V-TEC to "go fast" in.

What kind of 190 do you have?

Supersprint and Remus makes headers and exhaust systems for the 190. Most people go with a K&N air filter with the stock air intake system. You just have to do a search online for parts.

Interesting ive read you can change the 190e air intake hose, the one that takes in air from the grill right next to the headlight, to a 300e air intake hose which is like 3 times bigger would this affect the ecu? Would there be too much air? Is there such a thing? lol sorry confused i just no the cooler the engine the better because the engine gets really hot at high reving.

Buy a 16V, buy a 2.6 and swap in a 3.0, or save up and invest time and then lies a fast 201 in your garage:rolleyes:

cone aire filters/CAIs bad idea because they suck in the warm ambient air from the engine bay and actually decreases preformance. removing the r21 actually made my car worse.

you gota make sure your car is running good or normal first of all.. i bought nology silver spark plugs and nology performance coil and i noticed a good improvement in power and economy. If you want a real change, convert it to EFi + EDIS + Turbo and then it should be fast enough for you.
