Nice work there, what causes such a condition, folding the mirrors every night?
I had a similar condition and was able to repair it by re-sleeving the exposed wires by removing the contacts from the blue connector and sliding heat-shrink tubing over the wires and re-inserting the contacts into the connector housing (just do one wire at a time). It seemed to work very well.

I believe that the condition of exposed wires is caused by the so-called biodegradable wires that are infamous for trashing engine wiring harnesses. Even though I have a '98 which is supposedly beyond the biodegradable wire time-frame, I think that they used all of their excess engine wire in the side mirrors!

What was really amazing was that even with the exposed wiring, the mirror still worked just fine. No smoke and no blown fuses.
Same story here in Europe.

in my case it was only 3 bad wires, from which one broken.

I did a bit of soldering, and some tape to cover it.

for the time being it is ok, I am currently looking for a used wire set in good condition. I am already in contact with eddie.

I really don't understand why owners' experiences vary so much. Mine's a '94 and I fold the mirrors every time I park anywhere but I haven't seen anything like iss's wiring problem - yet, anyway. Maybe it's because we just don't get enough sun in the UK.
Hello all newbe here!! I just bought my first benz last week its a 94 s500, I also have a right side mirror that wont fold. Would anyone have a sep by sep, or some pix? That would be a great help thanks

So this was my new to me 1997 S280 Saloon in UK. 44K Miles on it. Just folded the mirrors and the fuses kept blowing without letting them fold back out. Took in & re-wired both mirrors today. Also repaired a sheared off pin inside the housing with a steel bolt
