As you all know I change my EHA valve 2 weeks ago & they recommend me to change my distributor Cap & Rotor as the car engine sometimes shakes during idle(Waiting at lights)-That only happen if i do not use the car for a few days. I will change it in January after my vacation.

So the shop have put the quotation at the invoice-

"2pcs distributor & rotor need to be replace- $1 200++" which is equivalent = USD $878. It that normal pricing for the distributor cap & rotor?

You can check online with parts.com for 'normal' US prices.

Of course, there is alway GermanStar.

If you're in Brunei, US$878 will fly you to HK (for the day) + 2 Bosch distributor caps + 2 rotors + 2 new/updated rotor brackets + s-plug cables.
I can give you the name & address of the parts store.

Dealerships are quite proud of those bosch caps. In the USA, aftermarket you can get the same cap and rotor for about $100. Manytimes they can be just cleaned up.

I think they are gouging you buy saying to replace caps/rotor/ and wires. I don't know anyone whom has replaced a complete set of wires on a M119 engine. They are silicone/copper core which last a long time. If there is a bad wire, they can find it using an ossiliscope and replace the wire- reusing the ends. Dealer sells the wire by the meter and it's cheap..

I'm sure $1200 would fix the problem.. but less than an hour cleaning caps might well take care of it and leave your wallet heavier for the holidays!

Well this is not a dealership- Just a Merc specialist & they get their parts from Singapore & sells cheaper that the dealer.


BTW today- I was washing the car. While brushing off the rear wheels.(Near gas cap area) If I put my nose near the area between the tire & rear fender. I can smell a light fuel smell. Explain that? Is that normal. I do recall asking the mechanic to inspect the gas tank area- He check & said no leaks found.

Actually, it might also be cheaper to get the OEM parts herein Manila. I'll call the local supplier here for some quotes + FedEx to Brunei.

I'd guess your fuel smell isn't normal. The fuel pump/fuel filter/accumulator is down there.. Check closely- most common would be fuel filter leakage where someone reused the crush washers. Tighten it a little bit- if that doesn't work replace the sealing washers.

Ok- I will have that ck soon to be sure- Smell is gone. I think it's Cat Pee too- Sometimes stray cat sleep under there too.... Not too sure. Edit- Just found out- I haven't change the fuel filter before.

Hello all- Now I want to buy the parts. Already Emailed the HK supplier that Chicky sent-Just awaiting reply from the parts store & I also look at eBay link that one member sent to me via PM.

From what i see. I need the:

My car- 91 500 SL: Engine M119.960

1) Distributor cap
119-158-01-02-m14

2) Ignition rotor
119- 168-020310M14

3) Distributor Rotor bracket
119-158-06-40-M22

What else do I need? Care to share & also are the parts no. correct? match with the car engine.


Edit- HK supplier already reply back- No stock for most parts except for the Rotor bracket. Thinking of buying from the USA.
