Greetings,

My top started to act up a few weeks ago and I wasn't sure what the issue was and I didn't give it a lot of thought. A few days later I got out of the car on a Monday after putting the top up that morning to find what I thought was WD-40 or something on the trunk. I had no idea where it came from. I know now. In the picture attached the silver part is where fluid is leaking from. It appears to be coming from around the area where the two bolts that hold it in place.

Does anyone have the part number for this if it needs to be replaced or is it possible to do any sort of fix? I did tighten the two bolts but it made no difference.

And if anyone needs help on how to manually put the top up, I'm a new expert! I'm going to replace the part in question and the brake light switch and then I'm selling this car. Going to do it after these two items while it would truly be a needs nothing car.

I'm looking to get a W210 if things go my way. I'd like to stick with a Mercedes. My CLK is a good car it is just that I have to haul kids around a lot and I'm not really in to drop tops. I just got such a good deal on this car from a family member I couldn't say no. I've had it for a year next month and she only has 53k miles. Hopefully the car will sell itself being that here in Florida a drop top comes in handy.

That silver part looks like the ones on my SL500. It's the hydrolic cylinder for the convertible. They are known to be leaked over time from the gasket. You can call your dealer or go to parts.com and check for part number. It should cost less than $150 each.

There is a guy named Dennis who can rebuild those for like $50 apiece. Send him those and he will have them back in a couple days.

Search for Dennis info on R129 forum.
