The fuse for the right front and rear parking and side market lamp keeps blowing.

I have put in a new rear lamp assembly but the fuse still keep blowing. I suspect it might the the front parking lamp socket.

Anyone experiencing the same problems. Do the front parking lamp socket have any issues? If so what is the fix?

How does one test for short?

Thanks

Had same problem in 98e320. Both tail light fuses blew. Replaced one of the standing light sockets that deteriorated, problem resolved. Used dealer supplied MB sockets, requires removal of head light, new socket wires need to be spliced into old.
On 98 a piece on grim under light must be removed. Instructions posted in forum, when removing trim after taking out screws, the trim piece must be pulled forward just enough to clear head light lens, then pulled towards center of car to pull tab on trim piece out of fender socket. Pulling out takes a bit of effort.

LED replacement for offset Mercedes stop/tail

1998 E300TD
I had the misfortune in middle of night to have defective lamp message appear. Found left stop/directional portion of socket and circuit board burnt. I did clean the burnt area on socket and run on circuit board it worked for about a month then came back. This time I used dremel and small polishing disc I then added silver solder to both contacts. Now working great for two months so far.
I would like to find low current LED replacement lamps with the offset pins I may try to remove incandescent part and LED assy from 1157 style and swap. Would be nice to find factory made LED for the socket. I think that would solve the high current burning of expensive circuit board and socket. with mounting pins staggered as in 1157 style is easy to find but staggered AND offset is a problem.
