Because of a rear end brake overhaul for an early 1981 500SEC, I'm in need of a pair of new parking brake cables.
The EPC shows for this VIN the following PN's:
- right: A1264201185 / left: A1264201085.
I would order original MB parts without any problem, but these are hugely expensive, over Eur 280,- / 300 USD for a pair.

Problem is all aftermarket cables seem to be of the PN's A1264201685 and A1264201785, like this eBay seller:

Although the length might be similar, the mounting flange is different. This I learned when I received a set of such aftermarket cables, see picture below:

The flange with the offset to the bolthole is different.
The mating diameter where the cable is inserted in the anchor plate is different (original/left 15mm / new/right 16mm)
2615483

Anybody here with a good link to (affordable) aftermarket cables for PN. A1264201185 and A1264201085 or do I need to bite the bullet and pay for the MB pricing?

I looked them up on auto.it
[using Chrome browser as it can auto-translate for me], look deeper into the part number for suppliers, then google the known brand cross reference number, in this case: Borg & Beck.

A1264201085 - Borg & Beck BKB2300

Hopefully, this will pan out as a viable technique.....

Great searching, I didn't get to other suppliers. Thanks!

Looking at the picture, it seems these have the correct (smaller type) mounting flange.

The same supplier also has the right version PN. A1264201185.
I will freshen up my French and order these cables.

I have one parking brake cable unused 124 420 11 85.
Center of cable to center of mounting hole is 1.25 inches, 32mm.
Hole diameter is 8.5mm.
Length overall is 42 inches, 107 cm.
Granted this is not the same part number, but I have this one in hand. Willing to sell.

Thanks, but this W124/W201 part does seem to have the incorrect mounting tab.
Also, it's a real cheap cable around USD 30,- a piece original MB, so not worth shipping overseas.

For some reason, the W126 cables are made out of gold or something :)

Thanks anyway.

You couldn't be more right.

Just learned that the French text box on the Oscaro.com site saying 'Produit indisponible' means 'Product unavailable' - bummer.

Continue searching.

Bit the bullet and spend USD 330,- at the MB dealer on those two cables..
But they fit like a glove and I can continue this project.

Thanks everyone for chiming in.

Short follow up question on these parking brake cables.

From the EPC I noticed a small grommet PN. A1154270396 close to the parking brake cable angle bracket on the anchor plate (see ref. # 59 on EPC print below):
2619885

I ordered this cheap grommet and are figuring where it needs to be installed exactly.
Is it merely a cover to go over the parking brake cable mounting flange and bolt?
So slide it over the bolt and mounting flange after parking brake cable is attached to anchor plate?

Two pics showing this grommet on the parking brake cable.
Please note the grommet on the pics is on the wrong side of the mounting flange. My idea is that it first needs to be slide over the cable mounting flange and then installated after cable is bolted to anchor plate, but didn't want to overstretch the grommet so I took the pics from the other side.

Any pics showing this grommet where it should be are appreciated.

It's hard to suss out what part is what sometimes... at least for me without a car right in front of me to reference.

I like your parts pics above, very detailed. That said, yours looks different to me than what is on my on-screen diagrams here.

I have been pondering the parts diagrams for the real early 500SEC rear suspension and I came up with this.

Part 59 seems to be rectangular in shape, possibly a grommet fitting underneath the parking brake shoe support/anchor #62 and fitting into that rectangular hole at 6 O-Clock position in the cover #50. I have not seen the shoe support/anchor directly, nor can I seem to find an image online here, but that's what I believe we are looking at.

I am going to guess your part in hand goes over the attaching bolt that secures the cable. It certainly is the right shape I think. Does that make any sense?

Someone else with hands-on experience here will likely chime in too..

Keep up your good works.

Here're some pics for # 62 which has got PN. A1234230206 or A1234230006 (alternative).

When I come to installing the parking brake cable and bolting it to the anchor plate, I will make a picture how this grommet fits over the parking brake cable flange and bolt.

The grommet fits on the brake dust shield where the cable enters, the part above i believe then bolts over it
were you able to buy the rubber grommet was it still available
