Pano sunshade not moving

The panoramic roof’s sunshade isn’t closing or opening.

The motor for the sunroof (and sunshade) works, the scanner is telling me when the sunshade is closed, in motion, and open. But the shade isn’t moving.

This goes for both the front AND rear pano sunshade.

Where should I start?

Do you hear any odd noises when operating the sunshade... like a grinding, clicking, or crunching? The gear for the sunroof/pano is something that is can strip and/or damage the drive cables. The sunroof/pano motor is behind the overhead panel and accessed easier. The sunshade motor is next to it, but would likely required dropped the headliner, at least in front, to gain access.

Similar to this, but this is for sunroof/pano:

I was able to drop the overhead console and then tried to shut the sunshade and I saw the motor work. So, its something in between the motor and the sunshade itself

I'll drop the motor for the sunroof. But i really doubt that its the motor because the sunroof opens and shuts like it should albeit a little slow.

The motor spins a toothed gear, which engages with the drive cable. The cable is coiled wire, like a very long spring. The teeth engage between the spaces of the coils.

The motor can spin, but if the gear is stripped or the drive cable is damaged... then the cable won’t move and thus the shade shade won’t either.

I think dropping the front of the headliner, popping out the motor and inspecting the gear/teeth and cable would be my first step. If it’s something at the sunshade end, then the whole headliner will need to be dropped.
Not a bad time to loctite the hardware for pano frame that will creak over time.
