painting my break calipers

2370 Views 8 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  papa
If I want to paint my break calipers, do I have to use a special paint? Or can I go to an auto part store and buy some high preformance/high temp paint and it would work? I wouldnt see why not...I have used it before when restoring and detailing cars under the hood, i.e. engine blocks, ect. what do you guys think?

Thanks,
Doc

Normal high temp engine paint is good for around 400 degrees F, brake fluid boils at less than that, so yes, it's good to go. I have used it to good effect and have had no problems.
The brake caliper specific paint will go higher and is an epoxy type paint so it is better for the job, you have to decide if it's worth the extra time for preperation and painting or not.

Oh, one more thing, the epoxies are about 10x the cost, but like I said they are more durable, your call.
