Ive had my new dash fitted which looked black but now that its in the car its actually dark brown, only really shows in the sun but is really starting to put me off....i think it has been reskinned. Im thinking of having it painted though im not sure how good they turn out does it scratch off over time? Can i have the dash painted without having to remove it? How much does it cost & can anyone recommend me to someone in melbourne who does the job right?

You should search the R170 forum, since Mercedes-Benz painted the interior of the cars, which many members now have issues with.

I pained the dash in my 380SEL to match. It was a black dash and I had a dark blue interior. It was a very high quality result! Of course I did this before I installed the dash in the car.

I used SEM Colour Coat paint, it can be found in many colours to match your interior and it is meant for just such an application.

The trick is to clean the hell out of the dash before you paint it. If anyone has ever ArmourAll'ed the dash before you will need to clean it very well to draw all that crap out.

I don't think there is any way around removing the dash before you paint it. :(

If you try to paint it in place, you're going to have a really hard time getting all the edges and corners cleaned, as well as some real trouble masking off the glass, the A-pillars, etc.
