I used to feel the same way you feel now.
I picked up a BLACK - very high quality bathroom hand towel (because of its size), folded it in half, and have had it draped i over the center arm rest for about 2 years. After a week, you'll never notice that it's there. (Blk to match the interior)

Changed out the center console from the roll type to the padded clam shell style
As the roll type left marks on my arm from the wood slats

Not a cheap fix....

I have the clam shell type and it's great! While I was testing cars, I hated the rolling cover for the arm rest! I'm sure Mercedes can sell you the part, or if you want it cheaper you should look on ebay or auto salvage yards.

roll top center arm rest is just plain uncomfortable

I am surprised that this is the first mention that I have noticed on this topic. I don't believe any of the other models incorporate this design.

Any one else have a crafted fix to replace the roll top with something nice?

I would love to know of a fix for no padded arm rest. Owned this car for 13 years. Only 72k miles. I am tired of getting dead right arm.
any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have a fix for the clamshell armrest.

Buy 2 padded armrest covers for a rolling desk chair of your preference. Install cover over each clamshell.

It'll be like sitting at the comfort of your own desk all day long. Enjoy.

Just find an 03-05 211 in the JY and pull the console. The facelifted center console sucks.
