I have a 2010 GL450 with this code P0715. Indy just retrain the transmission and said drive it again. Light came back on. Indy is saying you need a new transmission, The GL has 65K miles on it and transmission is smooth and drives fine. Just before I got the check engine light the gear did slip and I could not accelerate the car its as if was in neutral gear. I pulled over shut off the car and restarted everyting was normal but p0715 code was on. Any help would be great. I did change tranmission fluid few months back. Car drives fine.

Well, after 12 miles the code came back. The trans is running fine no issues no limp or slippage. So, not sure what to do at this stage. I read the posts above but they are for very old benz like 2000 and not a GL. I really need help on GL450 or GL series issues, the trans are not the same on other Benz, unless I am wrong about this.

Give me your vin number so I can check which transmission is fitted to your car.

OK my VIN is: 4JGBF7BE7AA606962
722904 02 654221 You have the 722.9 transmission so the link I gave you is useless. On the .9 transmission the sensor is part of the plate that goes with the valve body but the whole procedure for changing it is different.

But you should only need the plate changing and not the whole transmission.

Well, I will get an estimate and report back on progress. Thanks for your help so far. I think it will be like $1500 or so it's still a risk, this may not fix the issue but willing to try it before the whole trans change....

Everything in this job is a risk. But I am 100% confident that this is only a speed sensor issue, if it were a real slipping transmission job then it would not correct itself simply by turning the ign off and on again.
