I got my replacement from mbwharehouse and it has more prongs then the original - and what appears to be 2 fuses on top instead of one - I swapped it out and the car won't start

What gives?

You have the wrong one then. Are you sure you ordered the correct one? Received the correct one. There are several versions of it. My car for example is different than for your car as I have ASR.

Some replacement parts are updated versions. They can contain circuitry not applicable to older models. A good example is a new fuel pump relay.

I'd check the epc and see if it's the correct part number. I think there's a link to that in one of the DIY sticky threads

Okay, well ... learned a nice little lesson here. I knew something was up when I called mbpartswharehouse and got what was either an Indian or Bangladeshi call center - after making my way through two different CSR's I got a return authorization number.

The item is the exact same one listed on several online parts places and so i thought it was safe to buy. As it turns out, it wasn't. (with my BMW, you could simply call BavAuto and get what you needed - it appears the Benz parts world is different). I took the advice of a couple of kind forum members who suggested i contact Jonathan Hodgman, who isn't more than 2.5 hours away from me, and called him. He straightened me out and will be sending me the right OVP relay.

I am going to schedule a weekend to go over to ATL and have him look the car over and tell me what preventative measures I need to take to keep the car running strong.

Thanks again for all the help. I have a feeling this car is going to be much like owning a sailboat. Good thing I got a good deal on it, its going to cost me a fortune to keep ... :D

Owning a Benz can be like owning a sailboat...if u don't have a sailboat then it's like standing in the shower tearing up $100.00 notes!!!! seriously..avoid MB authorizes dealers like the plague and only buy from the many(?) independent outlets.

Having three myself I would agree with the first part but disagree with the second part. There are some parts that you can only get from MB. Also, the quality is unquestioned. If you develop a good relationship with your parts manager as I have, you can get your parts for 10-30% off retail. That can bring some parts to very reasonable prices. Do not get me wrong. I like a good bargain. Just do not dismiss OEM MB parts wholesale.

Thirdly, Fill out your profile so we know who you are and where you are from.
