I was looking at things under the hood today, since I have no life, and was wondering what this relay type of object was for? Removing it, it came apart in my hand to reveal a fuse inside, BUT, there is a vacant space for another fuse.

Auxiliary fuse holder. One of the slots is filled when the car has heated seats. I forget what the other one is for but it's a more common item than the seats.

Fuses are installed in those slots only when specific optional equipment is installed. Some cars have no fuses; some have 1; some have 2.

I know that one of the slots has a fuse in it when the car has heated seats. Can't remember what the other slot is for.

It won't hurt to install a fuse in each slot. If the car isn't fitted with the relevant equipment the important parts of the wiring and/or a control module won't be there.
