So i've been playing around with my $1800 '93 buick century (83k on the clock). it has 1st and 2nd gear selectors and i can get to about 50mph in 1st and im assuming 100mph in 2nd since the speedo only goes to 85. Ive been wanting to kill this P.O.S for awhile and im surprised how well it's holding up.

IF im correct im straining the engine a ton by doing this and not the transmission? although the trans "hums" when i take my foot off the pedal and the accelerator shakes. Can anyone explain this better?

The 2nd gear in this car is amazing! No matter what speed your going in second it flies when you step on it(also makes the car sound like a race car haha). I kept up with my brothers 06 saab which has like 220hp.

i wouldnt count on it what size engine is in there 3.8 0r 3.4 if its 3.8 it will take a while
3.8, i agree. Whats horrible is the 3.1L, like whats in the 2001 century, plagued with intake manifold, and gasket issues, i had the fun of fixing this. We used to have a 93 le sabre?? and it was really quick in 2nd, tranny started to go out around 200,000.

I tried to blow up my 240z motor once cause I had another engine to put in.
I just held it full throttle in 1st gear for about 3 miles and nothing happened.

I was a bit disappointed.

At 83k these GM plasticars with their plastimotors are pretty much ready to meet the death's door. Just be sure you don't go along w/ the car... ;)
Haha actually i disagree it seems to have tons of life in it. The weirdest thing though is about once or twice a month it gets temperamental for a day and then goes away. stalling at stops or just shaking like a 454

Haha thats funny, i was a bit over dramatic in my title, im really just abusing it. putting water in the gas isn't near as fun as stomping on it, shifting between 1st and 2nd, and screeching around all the small roads i live near. It may get the water treatment soon however since ill need the driveway space if my great aunt buys a new car and gives me her '68 ford falcon that has 80k on it that she has owned since new and is rust free. im actually impressed by the century if it got rims, shocks, and tinted it'd be extremely sharp looking

Ah yes, that inderstructible Ford Falcon. I'll guess that it is fitted with the same Ford 289 engine that several early generations of the Ford Mustang used. Now that is one bullet-proof motor, fer sure. Keep the Falcon if you get it. She ain't as pretty as a Mustang, but she'll run just about forever.

I'm not sure what engines in it other than a 6cyl. Apparently it's been going to the shop a lot. A tank is the last thing anyone at age 92 should be driving.

Apparently it's not such a "POS" if it's still running. Instead of wasting and trying to destroy a vehicle just for kicks, why not do something intelligent and donate it to charity where it can help people who have less than you? Take a look below:
