Today I've received at least 8 robocalls after almost a month of zero. I have two lines, a cell phone and a business line. Both are getting BLOWN up with calls.

Some are absurd with messages like, "Citizen, we have blocked your social security number because of fraudulent blah blah blah".

Before, I used to be able to press 0 and get switched to the underpaid indian phone guy who was doing the calling. I would then blow into the phone mic and hang up. I guess they wised up because now they make you call another number and I'm not committed to that.

I don't ever remember it being this bad.

Even the phone number spoofing is reach a new low. One day I received three calls on my cell showing my cell number as the caller. I get several calls a day on my home phone showing a local number. A couple of times it showed my phone numbr as the caller. They are usually the lower your credit card interest rate. I love the Apple support or Microsoft ones. When bored I can usually string them along for 4 or 5 minutes before laughing.

This in their books gets to be flagged as "call again"

Trolling them gets rid of them in an instant.
I used to receive several daily calls from "Microsoft" saying that computer I am working on is infested and reports the infestation to them every 15 seconds (although I use Linux) and they would get me to browse the computer to a file with 16 letters and numbers to "authenticate themselves" (character sequence is identical in every windows computer).
20min of troll time, unload of swearing from other side... and the calls ceased.

I love how the forum has become inclusive and it now caters for 7yo kids as well.
See, why counting and reading the posts when you can just see the numbers and say WOW!

I'd be making money on my credit cards if I got all the help lowering my rates I've been offered!

I've been getting calls, all from the same area code and exchange that rings once and no one's there when I answer. I suspect it's a con to get me to call them as a lot of people can't stand not knowing what a missed call is about.

Likewise this week I've been getting the one about fraudulent use of my social security number and they've give a "toll free" (not!) number to call.

...and that's not even mentioning all the assistance I've been offered for medicare and all the free braces that will make me pain free. I can't wait for the call offering the free scooter.

BTW, Rowdie, how does that cock brace they sent you work? :D

My experience was positive. Hardly any calls now.
These mobs share experiences and I bet they share bad experiences as well.

There's another one about circular mail subscription from RE agent where one brush off with them gets you to become perpetually subscribed, again and again, with every new property they get. Unsubscribe worked for one property only.
I called the agent and promised I will use his email to subscribe to porn sites and to register on fraudulent sites....and did not receive any more emails from them neither from affiliate agents.

Typing replies on this website has become a nightmare if typing more than few sentences. Have to scroll in perpetuity as typing through a 10 word window makes it a mission impossible. I guess it also began to cater primarily for millennial attention span of 15 seconds. Need to adjust my expectations.

Getting them here in Canada too -- usually saying I've committed some heinous unspecified crime and the National Police (which isn't even a thing) need me to pay a fine, presumedly in iTunes gift cards. Then there are the tax fraud calls, the duct cleaning calls (I strung one guy along for 15 minutes until he realized I wanted him to clean my ducks), and a bunch of ones in Chinese that I assume are just variants on the above.

These sometimes are folks vetting a number list. If you answer (or your machine I suppose), they know the line is active. I'm at the point where I don't answer the phone unless it's a known contact. Everything else goes to voicemail. Pain in the ass though.

There's always the Jolly Roger Telephone Co. if you want to get some revenge...

I have tried playing it out by saying yes I would like a quote for health insurance. No matter how straight I play it they figure me out right away and hang up.

Sometime I just ask them if they have heard the word of God.

We sometimes get several of these calls in one day. Some are listed on our caller ID as local calls, some are from a variety of other area codes, and many show a number that's around 14 digits beginning with the letter "V" with a local number listed just underneath.
When the answering machine picks up the calls, there's usually no message, so we either let the machine screen the call, or we just pick up the phone and immediately hang it up. No matter what we do, they just keep calling!
Seems like there should be some method to turn these unwanted calls off, but even an unlisted number doesn't seem to stop them!

In the call center the people on the phones are not doing the dialing, they simply click a button and they are immediately connected - saves a lot of time. To make this work a computer is doing the dialing and once someone answers it it then connects the call to a currently free call center person.

Sometimes the computer does this but there is nobody free in the call center because they are all on calls, so it drops the call. Result is that the recipient just gets silence.

I've gone to telling the first human who speaks "Robocall scammer, why don't you get an honest job?". Hasn't done anything about the volume of calls, but at least it's satisfying.

I've come back to let you know that this worked. I haven't received a call at all today!

I just tell them F*** You and hang up. Satisfying and I never get a call from the same number twice. I know, I know, computers can do wondrous things with phone numbers. However, lately, I've been getting only 4-6 calls a week. I wonder if the FY hangup is working?????

Try Djenkas trick and see if wasting their time works better. I only got a call about an extended car warranty and I played dumb telling them I don't own a car. Same thing today, no calls!

I've strung Microsoft callers, duct cleaners, win a free cruise people out in the past.
Very satisfying.
The best was the Nigerian Princess email....strung "her" along for about 4 days.

When I finally said "OK....but on one condition...send me pictures of you in a pink bikini"............that's where it ended.
I missed out on $5,000,000. Damn it.

Most of the ones I get are about auto warranties.
"Are you talking about the 1997 Tahoe or 1986 dually? I AM the warranty, you sonofabitch, leave me alone!

I also have been getting these calls in Aus and usually add the number they called on to my blocked contacts list. Yesterday I found on my apple phone an option to "Silence Unknown Callers", it is in Settings/Phone and scroll down to turn on the option which just sends Unknown contacts to voicemail. As we all know they wont leave a message so now I think my phone will block all unwanted calls. (I hope).
