Pink AMX with a tilt wheel. It definitely has a story tongi with it.

Yes, even a freaking AMX had a tilt wheel. Why MB couldn't put one in our 107s? I guess they thought is was still a sportscar or something. It makes me want to see if the column I think I have around from the 1972 could be converter. There's not much to the column. I think the problem is that the dash is in the way. So a longer column would be required to make anything tilt. I remember seeing scratches from the steering wheel on some of my cars' clusters. So it's almost as if a tilt hub would do it. Ahh... Back to the eccentric adapter. Hmmm... Maybe stack a bunch if those up on a shorter hub.

GM introduced tilt wheels in 1963. Ford introduced telescoping wheels in 1955. GM introduced tilt/tele in 1965.

MB not so much at the forefront of technology...

If you are bored, you might be able to use a 129 column. They have electric tilt and telescope. I've seen a few for sale on fleabay and thought about the prospect. I'll have to look it over. You might have to cut the two shafts and splice if the couple is not compatible. Then of course adapt the wiring. What could go wrong?:grin

Hmmm. that would be an interesting conversion and I think doable.
I've pulled the steering shaft when I replaced the Steering Coupler in
my 380SL. Think about key lock - you might want to disable that anyway.
The Steering column is mounted using two 13mm bolts. It would be
interesting if an R129 steering column could be adapted to work.
It it could, that would be sweet.
