I know my info was compromised a month ago when I got inquiries from credit cards that I never applied for, and found large money transfers out of my legit accounts that Chase Bank agreed to freeze. So watch your statements and consider using the free 90 day fraud alert option (one agency does all three); that can be extended if needed.

In my last job before I finally retired I wrote software that pulled Credit data from Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion. There is a lot of detailed information on each individual contained in the credit bureau's database. Its a pretty serious breach of security and a lot of fuel for mischief.

I tried it. Result was my information "May" have been compromised. Sounds like a come on to get you to enroll. Free now but I bet it will be a paid service later.

I already have two services after a theft last year. I received an Email last year about one of my credit card being sent as requested. Checked and it was an additional signer being mailed to Florida. Immediately cancelled it. Found out they had issued another previously to another address in Florida and there was over $8,000.00 on it that was past due. Got that one cancelled and removed from my credit bureau records. They had my name and SSN. Paying for ID production now.
