I used to sell a lot on the bay, and as I recall, after they went to user ids I couldn't get the buyers regular email address before the end of the auction, and even then only if they were the winning bidder.

I just received a couple of emails from a seller whose item I'd bid on but didn't wind. These came to me before the end of the auction and didn't come through the ebay messaging.

Anyone have any good answers for for this ????

Could be a scammer. I wouldn't respond outside of Ebay.

it's not a scammer as I know who the seller (St Louis car dealer) is and the email matches the one on their website.

I've not replied simply because I wasn't interested.

Just curious as to how they came by mine...

I have had a similar thing happen.
I assumed the seller gets to see full info on all bidders.

I'm an Ebay seller and have no way of getting that information unless someone personally sends it to me, or maybe if they sent it to me in the past for something else they bought.

That's the way I thought it was. My best recollection was that after someone won an auction from me I could a substantial amount of information about them, but not before...

I guess I'll bitch to eBay.

Thanks, guys.

Because your privacy is important to us, you can request contact information only for members who are involved in your current or recent transactions.

Buyers can request contact information for a seller if they're:

* An active bidder on a listing that hasn't ended yet
* The winning buyer of an ended listing

Sellers can request contact information for:

* An active bidder on a listing that hasn't ended yet
* The winning buyer of an ended listing

... answers that question.
