HI,
anybody knows original tyre and rims sizes for 123 wagoons? I am interested in sizes for 240TD, 300TD and 280TE preferably european version. If anybody have scan or picture tooken from some owner guide book or some official paper, showing this data, could you post it here, please?

For 240TD in registration book, I have 175SR14 (no longer available on market), which seems to me to narrow for wagoon and 195/70/14. Because I am about to shift to 300TD or 280TE in future year, I would like to be sure that If i buy 195 now, I will be able to use it on stronger car next winter.

Thanks

Presuming you either have 6x14: Bundts (Barockfelgen) or MB steel wheels w/ covers... then 195/70/14 is perfectly fine to maintain factory recommendations.

NB: MB specs show the 240TD originally came with 195SR14 tires on 6x14 wheels.
You may have been looking at the 240D instead and it originally came with 175SR14 tires which translates to its original wheels as the 5.5Jx14 steelies.

Thanks!

I have steel MB rims 5,5J/14 prepared for winter tyres.

I can only think that on police, they write what they see on car 30 years ago, when it came to Czech rep. So like an original wheels in registration book there is writen 5,5J/14/H2 - 175SR14. But as I said, thats seem to me like wheels for sedan, not wagoon, so I dont care much about this size now.

In alternative wheels part of reg. book, there are 5,5J/14/H2 - 195/70/14 90H.

So If I should simplify my question, Is there any proof in literature that 195/70/14 on 5,5J rims is original for 240, 300TD and 280TE ?

W123 documentation reveals 5.5Jx14 wheels had 175SR14 tires, like on a 240D.
All the 123 wagons left the assembly line w/ 6Jx14 wheels with 195SR14 tires, if ordered w/o any wheel upgrades.
All 123s had 70 series tires, stock, including the base 123 model (200; 175SR14).
Hope this helps. :)

Go to this internet page of MB. There you can download information on the tyre sizes for every MB car.
Thanks for that link. If I compare pdf files of wagoon and sedan it look like I have wheels for sedan written in registration book of wagoon.... Do you think that that document from MB is suitable enough for police, to correct my registration book? I dont want to spend money for confirmation of that fact at local dealer of MB, if the same document is free, only to correct mistake made long time ago by police officers. I love them:)

So your concern for the original tire size is be in compliance with the laws in the Czech Republic and that driving on anything but stock size is against the law punishable by a fine? :eek:wned:

I dont know if we understand each other. In CZE, you can drive on that ever you want, but size of wheels must be writen in registration book of your car first. Usually there are written original size wheels (in my cause they simply wrote size of sedan wheels instead of wagoon) and extra size wheels. If you want to let police to write extra size wheels, you must have list from local dealer of MB, that the size of wheel chosen by you can be used on your car. So the way how to do it: pay to MB and get that paper, then pay to police and you can use the car with your wheels.

So I wana buy new winter tires (bridgestone LM-20 195/70), it will cost me some 450USD and i dont want to put them on 5,5J only because some clever officer wrote it. And I dont want to pay some 60USD more to MB for sheet of paper, that I can really drive on 6J like whole world around me. If I use 6J (original for wagoon and the best for chosen tires) the car will not pass technical check and in cause of accident no ensurance will cover it. Ill have to deal with papers first...

I would like to belive that signed document (however is free on net on MB.de) from manufacturer should be proof on which police will corect that in my registration book.

I run 195/70 on 14x6.5 wheels from an S class
this is an excellent combination for handling

if you need proof that a 6x14 is acceptable, I have a .pdf of the full range owners manual which specifically calls out 6x14 for 280TE which is the same chassis as any other model wagon.

Well, you can always try. It is a signed PDF document, available on the MB website, but if the police is old-fashioned, than it is possible that they will only accept an original document.

You can try going to the MB dealer with the printed PDF and let them confirm it.
