I wasn't impressed with the Becker Cassette Radio

I wasn't impressed with the standard Becker Cassette radio that came from the factory in my '87 560SL.

Maybe I had a bad unit, but that thing would eat cassettes all the time.

Have since replaced it with something for modern.

Anyone thinking of getting an original Becker unit, I'd suggest you avoid them - just my experience (unless you're doing some kind of original restoration).

What updates did you get

Hello Esteves,

I too am thinking of upgrading. Big difference when I go from my E420 Bose to the 560sl Becker.

As I understand it, unless I modify and add rear speakers, the 107 only has two front smaller speakers in the dash (to the left of the steering wheel and underneath the glove box, if I remember correctly).

Was hoping to upgrade this spring without having to modify or cut the wood console.

Just looking for some opinions.

I went with Sony

I swapped out the Becker unit with a simple Sony headunit.

It's a Sony CDX-L300. It's nothing fancy, but it's a nice CD player.

Yes, there are only TWO speakers in the SL cars. I don't know what Mercedes was thinking, but stereo systems were not a priority back in the 80s.

I don't remember the size of the front speakers. I want to say either 4.5 or 5.25 inches.

If you don't want to cut into the interior, than there isn't much you can do to my knowledge.

Good luck!
