Hi Nick and welcome aboard. Please remember to ill your profile with your location and once you purchase one your car and year to help us help you in the best nd quickest possible way.
As you can see from my profile I'm Italian too so feel free to PM me just in case.
Anyway if you have the need to check on the car you are considering the first thing you have to do is ask the VIN number (in Italian it's numero di telaio) to the dealer or the seller of the car and then follow this LINK to see what originally came to the car you want to buy.
On Friday I'm leaving to the UK for a few days (see the thread about the get together) coming back on Monday so I won't be in Italy but if you want to contact me I can give you my number just in case.
Also once you have the VIN number you could also post it here and we all can give you advises about the car.
If you have pics or a link to the car you are considering it would be even better.

Good luck.

Cheers.

Thanks a lot!
i haven't seen the car yet, a dealer friend of mine told me about the car, he knew i was intereset in a sl, as soon as i'll have some more info i'll write them !!!

right now i just know that is a high mileage car 160.000 km, that had some serious elettronical problem but the previous owner had them fixed at MB with a lot of work and maintenance.

I really trust the dealer so i think that the car is really ok, with a really good price. The only thing is to understand the original equipment (as i wrote, wheels and bumpers colour)

I'll write the vin number !!

Nick in R129s previous than 1996 the bumpers are not color coded with the body so if you notice some difference in colors it's perfectly normal. Anyway who is the dealer and are you in Milan? I'm 30 KMs south of Milan so if you want we could meet up since we are pretty close and where I am there is an extremely competent and not too expensive Mercedes dealership just outside the Milano-Bologna motorway.

Cheers.

P.s. By the way if you want to join us in UK for a fun day at Mercedes Benz World you can have a look at this thread so you get the idea of what's what :). LINK

881 central locking inside for roadster pigeonholes (с 01.02.1988 по 30.11.1991)

It looks like a very nice car. Probably the interior is what they now call red Cartier in Italy but looks like a nice color combo. Now yo only have to do your homeworks and see if the car is in good condition: 160,000 Kms is not a little but in the end you are buying a Mercedes and with a bulletproof engine either.
Have it inspected by a mechanic and cycle the soft top a few times before testdriving it and when you come back check for hydraulic fluid puddles coming from the soft top cylinders.

Good luck.

Cheers.

Nick, if with the 8 holes 16" wheels you mean the ones that were on the W124 if memory assists me they were standard on the R129 too.

If you can post some pics :).

I think the '91 came with the 15 holes wheels, so the 8 holes ones may be put on later.

Now that you make me think about it RKH you are right: the R129 like the W124 came with the 15 holes 15" rims as standard and as far as I remember, but I might be wrong, the 8 holes 16" (?) were an option.

Cheers.

I am not really into wheels but I think the R129 always had 16" wheels as standard OEM (the W124 may have 15" ?), so those 15 holes wheels might came in 2 sizes ?
I am pretty sure about the 15 holes 16" wheels was OEM for the '91 R129 (in the USA) because I just bought an extra set of those wheels for my (1998) R129 which came off a 1991 300SL.
(I have 18" runflat summer tires on my car and I bought the 16" so that I can use chains when I go skiing).
