I have had my slk 55 amg over a week now and absolutly love it!!
Went into my dealer today and found there to be an 12-18 month waiting list for the 55 amg already!!

I decided to place another order for one today!!
The dealer said I would have it in 12 months (cus I am an exsisting 55 amg owner) and he would garantee top money for my exsisting one as by next year the waiting list will be much longer and he will sell in straight away.
This means I get a brand new 55 amg again this time next year and I will hardly lose any money on my exsisting one!!
Has any else done this yet?? Would be interested on your thoughts guys??

Is this a UK thing, or is this a world wide thing? I saw several SLK55's on the lot at a local dealer in January.

Several? Are you sure they were SLK55 and not SLK350 with the AMP option? When I was shopping for my SLK350 in the Chicago are I did not see any SLK55.

Several. At least two. There were half a dozen new SLK's arrainged in a pinwheel fashion, others here and there, and a massive amount of snow being removed. There were many SL's also, and a least 1 SL55. I was there to look at the colors for the SL's. In one spot there were 4 SL's in a row, all different colors. Agean Blue was my choice. This was not my dealers lot. I was there for over 40 min looking at the SL's, and nobody came out to bother me.

There were five unregistered SLK55 AMGs advertised in the Sunday Times yesterday. I wouldn't expect the values to stay anywhere close to list over the next twelve months. Normally with new models in short supply the waiting list is long at the beginning because of pre-orders, but gets shorter as time goes by. The list is no longer now than it was 12 months ago. Actually it may be shorter, because by last May it was supposedly 2 years according to my contact at DC. As for getting preferential treatment as an existing owner, that's highly unlikely since all UK dealer orders for AMG models are placed directly with Mercedes-Benz on a first come first served basis, and do not come out of an allocation per dealer. Still, the dealer would say that, wouldn't he [;)]

When confirmation of the 4 valve engine becomes official, we'll see what happens to resale of the current SLK 55's. Anyone want to guess?
No[:(]

Gordie - why would you go through the break in period again??

can you explain what the point of ordering another SLK55 is...especially since you already have a brand new one? [?]

Uh huh, you really believe what your dealer says. You have to take a couple of things into consideration;

1. Your SLK *will* lose money in that year.
2. Your dealer *wants* you to buy another so will, unfortunately, tell you that "you will get top money for your existing".

You have to bear in mind that the car will depreiciate. Your dealer cannot tell you how much you will get for your car in a year from now as they have no idea how much millage you will do, state of the car, current marketplace, other MB cars in the line etc, etc...

I have this from experience of doing exactly the same thing and got my fingers burnt. They will tell you virtually anything to get that other sale.

Admittedly you probably won't lose too much as it is, afterall, an AMG and waiting lists are long. However, a friend of mine who owned one of the first SL55 AMG models thought the same thing. Imagine his suprise when he came to sell his a year later and had lost around 20K! Why? SL55 had come down in cost, other competitors in the market place.

I think if you can afford to buy a second one then great. Enjoy the new car feel the second time around. It clearly sounds like you love the car but why would you buy a new car (of the same model) a year later and go through the depericiation again?

Well... if he does this, he could get a new AMG 63/69 instead. More power and so on.

If he has the money, what's stopping him [;)]

Hi guys,

Wow!! That was all a bit heated!!

Let me clarify a few points:-

I am not having two SLK 55 AMG's, I am just swopping the current one for a new one in 12 months time.

Should waiting lists drop or the value of the car not stand up to expectations then I shall simply cancel the order and get my £500 back!!

I don't believe values will drop like the SL 55 AMG because the starting price is much higher £100,000 vs £50,000 for the SLK 55 AMG.

My thinking behind the whole thing is this...

I want to have the SLK 55 AMG for two years, then change for either an Aston Martin or if Mercedes bring out a new SL 500 in 2007 then I will have that.
So, instead of driving my current SLK for two years I will have a new one again in 12 months so I when I come to sell I will be selling a one year old car instead of a two year old car with higher mileage and wear and tear etc!!

But like I said, if it doesnt look good nearer the time then I will simply cancel the order on the new one!!

P.s. No I dont wanna go through the running in period again... Its hell!! But I will for the pleasure of picking up a new car!! Theres nothing like the feeling of driving away a brand new car, especially if you have worked ya ass off to buy it!!

BTY... Man Utd in the semi's.... Ha'way the lads!!

so...let me get this straight...you want to sell a car twice/lose money twice instead of losing money once?

i don't understand this...i guess depreciation works differently in the UK compared to US...[:p] [:)]

does MBUK offer leasing programs? 'cause i think that would have worked out a LOT better if you just leased a car since you would be saving a lot of money...especially if you're only going to keep the car for 2 years and sell it or trade-it in...

I don't think that ordering another SLK 55 is unreasonable. Many premium car owners buy a new one every year (not me). Considering that the delivery of the second car will take 12 months, this is the time to place an order.

Remember, he's only had the 1st slk55 for a week. seems like you would get a better trade in on that car verses a 1 year old car. Besides, if there are any problems popping up on the AMG's they won't be corrected in 1 year.
I had a slk320 traded in for a new slk350, which i love. But a part of me regrets the trade up. I would rather have waited 2 yrs and got a sl500. And as previos post says, I don't want to lose out twice.

I dont see that you have a lot to lose here apart from the money you would have made on the £500 deposit over a year - probably not a lot if it was sat in a bank account.

It does give you the choice in a years time to judge the market again for little cost. My guess is that you will win money wise and get a new car [:)].

Good luck ( and in the footy )
